Boo to NVIDIA, I say ATI is the way forward! I'm by no means a fanboy, but I think ATI is the new AMD, bringing excellent performance at more competetive prices. Geforce FX sounds like a jet engine, takes 2 PCI slots, and is only marginally faster than RADEON 9700 at a far higher price. And by the time it's advanced shading get's put to good use it will long have been superceded by the "Next Big Thing". I've got a Ti 200 and the radeon 9700 is my next buy.
A few personal comments about the Geforce FX "cons:"
Noisy fan:
I already have a Delta 80mm 80cfm 52.5dba and 2 Delta 120mm 130cfm fans.
Also, has anyone here personally heard the fan on it?
2 PCI slots:
I find it hard to imagine that anyone could use all of their PCI slots. Besides, the first PCI slot usually has IRQ conflicts with AGP slot.
Price:
No more expensive than Radeon 9700 Pro when it came out. Give it a few weeks and it will be "reasonable."
In fact, the only reason I am not going to buy a GF FX Ultra is because I already have a Radeon 9700 Pro.
And I also would like to get some evidence of the Ultra being dead. I can't see Nvidia spending all this time working on a card, and then not selling it anymore just because it barely beats the 9700 Pro and doesn't completely live up to everyone's full expectations.
