I can't share what he showed me (my apologies) but it looks like the issues of GF6 series video encoding/decoding with WMV are going to be resolved very soon.

I thought you all would want to know, I would were I as concerned about this issue as some of you seem to be.

I'd imagine if I got to see this stuff on my word you'll all be seeing it soon on AT etc.. Better days ahead for the video community.

Thanks Rollo. I guess I might hold onto my 6800 GT then instead of trading for an x800 vivo. The PVP is very important for us athlon xp owners.

You're welcome LT.

It's worth keeping to try their if only for the hassle of trading cards and expense.

Does the X800 series accelerate WMV? If not, why bother with the trade?

According to xbit, the x800 cards did accelerate WMVHD, though not as well as the 6600 did. However, the ~50% acceleration from the x800 cards should be good enough for just about any modern day gaming CPU anyway.

Ah. Well, I'd wait a few more weeks to see nVidia's solution in any case. Might save yourself some money if you're otherwise happy with the card.

A couple of nutjobs do that's for sure.

That's it Rollo, accuse those that point out both your bias and hypocracy, of being "nutjobs", especially when they also try to shed some additional information on the situation that might not have been known to the community.

Personally, I am curious, why didn't you post the information that you supposedly have, to the "official" thread? Decided that you needed some attention?

Anyways, new official Dets are out, from all reports, still no WMV-HD accelleration, and DAPUNISHER seems to have encountered a further IQ loss as well.

So what exact was the "inside" scoop, other than "Oh, hey, I've got a secret. I can't tell you - oh - but it's really, really good secret. Trust me." That used to be popular in kindergarten, but not so much any more.

The honest truth is, I only wanted to post some additional technical information, to inform people of the risk of NV pulling a fast one. But the simple fact that you openly defended the same exact sort of behavior that you (often) publically rebuked, just set me off. In your little world, I'm sure that NV can never do wrong.

In my world, they're just yet another faceless corporation, who will lie, cheat and steal, to get your money. I'm not singling them out, of course, rather, I'm lumping them in with all of the rest, and proffer them no special treatment.

"Waah. I need $200 for the case I want, can you send another $100.?"

I should ask you to put your money where your mouth is, but .. no, trust me, I wouldn't want your money.

Well, if there is an NDA involved, then there are something Rollo or his friend can't say or are better left unsaid. I used to intern at a chip foundry, so I know there are things that can't be said but could really help consumers in buying decisions or forum debates.
I openly admit I am an nVidia fanboy although not quite to the point of nVidiot, and I would be really pixxed if nVidia is screwing me over again. The last time was called the NV3X debacle.

My my. Someone thinks they have all the answers don't they?

The information I've seen is subject to NDA at this point in time. As much as I'd like to post it for decent people to put their minds at ease, I do not wish to betray my friend's trust, break the NDA, or be sued by nVidia.

If you were in a similar position, you might do the same?

whoa whoa...chill out folks, rollo was just a guy that had some info and wanted to drop it on us. I myself think it was a nice gesture, now all you people are arguing over what NV should do, if this or that happens....well how about we let things happen first? Lets wait and see til the end of Nov. when NV is supposed to release a new driver for Vid processing (mind you, i believe you will need the new driver AND some other decoding software from NV as well), if it happens then great, if not, then go complain to NV or your card manufacturer, not rollo.

Zzzz.. this is still not fixed..

I found something that causes my dropped frames to reduce to a minimum now (just 6 dropped frames on the "into the liquid' demo movie.

if you have your 6800 overclocked, put the clock back down to default levels
Set the media player priority to Above Normal.

You must have just returned from a place w/o internet.
It's been announced their fix for this will be launched 12/20, along with many reviews.
