weeks before anyone is going to find out,

I forwarded some of the negative/hostile chat going on about the 6800 VP to my friend at nVidia as many of you seem most concerned about it.
I can't share what he showed me (my apologies) but it looks like the issues of GF6 series video encoding/decoding with WMV are going to be resolved very soon.
I thought you all would want to know, I would were I as concerned about this issue as some of you seem to be.
I'd imagine if I got to see this stuff on my word you'll all be seeing it soon on AT etc.. Better days ahead for the video community.

It's worth keeping to try their if only for the hassle of trading cards and expense.
Does the X800 series accelerate WMV? If not, why bother with the trade?

According to xbit, the x800 cards did accelerate WMVHD, though not as well as the 6600 did. However, the ~50% acceleration from the x800 cards should be good enough for just about any modern day gaming CPU anyway.

Sheesh. I swear I could PayPal these guys $100. as a gift and I'd get:
"Waah. You used your credit card so it cost me $3, can you send it?"
"Waah. I don't like PayPal."
"Waah. I need $200 for the case I want, can you send another $100.?"

That's it Rollo, accuse those that point out both your bias and hypocracy, of being "nutjobs", especially when they also try to shed some additional information on the situation that might not have been known to the community.
Personally, I am curious, why didn't you post the information that you supposedly have, to the "official" thread? Decided that you needed some attention?
Anyways, new official Dets are out, from all reports, still no WMV-HD accelleration, and DAPUNISHER seems to have encountered a further IQ loss as well.

So what exact was the "inside" scoop, other than "Oh, hey, I've got a secret. I can't tell you - oh - but it's really, really good secret. Trust me." That used to be popular in kindergarten, but not so much any more.
The honest truth is, I only wanted to post some additional technical information, to inform people of the risk of NV pulling a fast one. But the simple fact that you openly defended the same exact sort of behavior that you (often) publically rebuked, just set me off. In your little world, I'm sure that NV can never do wrong.
In my world, they're just yet another faceless corporation, who will lie, cheat and steal, to get your money. I'm not singling them out, of course, rather, I'm lumping them in with all of the rest, and proffer them no special treatment.

I should ask you to put your money where your mouth is, but .. no, trust me, I wouldn't want your money.

Zzzz.. this is still not fixed..
I found something that causes my dropped frames to reduce to a minimum now (just 6 dropped frames on the "into the liquid' demo movie.
if you have your 6800 overclocked, put the clock back down to default levels
Set the media player priority to Above Normal.
