Ghetto-rig Subwoofer???

I am trying to hook a sub that came with my computer speakers up to my receiver. The connection on the rear of the subwoofer is the same as the analog connectors that would connect to the rear of my computer. The connection on my receiver is an RCA port. I tried splicing an RCA connector onto one end of the analog wire. This did not work well and i just got constant extreme bass from the sub. Is there any way you know of for me to do this? I know there are RCA adapters for headphone connectors which would fit However the connector on the subwoofer wire has 3 channels because it is sub,rear,and rear-center and the headphone-rca adapters only have 2 channels.

Is it a powered subwoofer? You might be getting constant extreme bass because you are powering the woofer with both the receiver and the woofers internal power.

i have my speakers (klipsch pm 5.1) hooked up through a receiver. all you need is a cable that is rca on one end to plug into the receiver and minijack on the other end to plug into the center/sub hole on the sub itself. the way mine is set up is i have three cables that are minijack to dual rca(red/white) hooked from my soundcard to the receiver for 6 channel input. however, i found that the bass wasn't getting carried through, so i hooked up a splitter to the center channel rca plug and used that as the input for the center and sub and it works good. this and this are what i used.
