Yesterday I was watching some episodes of that show called Ghost Hunters on the Sci-Fi channel.

They go to "haunted" places (houses, old prisons, old insane asylums, etc) and set up cameras, sound recorders, and they walk around with cameras and stuff to try to find any evidence.

I felt like such a tool watching it because they never got anything recorded. It was all just sounds (that could have been made by anyone) and personal experiences, like something touched them or they felt colder air or something, nothing they could prove.

they showed footage of something they thought they found in some old prison but hwen you watch it, it just looks like someone with a black sheet over their head.

It's somewhat interesting, and I admit that I'm always hoping that they will find something. But they never do. Even if they're not always doing it right, at least they are trying to apply science to the investigation of paranormal activities. Evidence is pretty much lacking, though. All they ever find are orbs (dust) or imperceptable noises in their audio recordings.

yeah, it would be awesome if they could actually find something and have proof. that would probably turn the world upside down (or at least the science and religion world anyway).

I kept wondering why they only spent a few hours in the places too. you'd think they would spend several days there at least.

I was channel surfing and ran across this yesterday. They were talking about how they recorded a sound and were "downloading" it to their laptop to analyze it and the laptop (WinXP) crashed. They were all OMG it's teh ghosts. Teh ghosts are hacking our planet.

I've watched it a few times just to see how many stupid things they come up with. They take temperature readings and are shocked that the temperature is cooler in parts. Duh, The measure the temp by the window and it colder than it is in the interior of the house. Or they felt a breeze when they walked passed they AIR VENT.

It's soo stupid.

The arkansas one with the figure on the locker was strange. I was more facinated with why the number 2 was a different temperature than the rest of the locker, but later when they went back it was the same.

But ever since I saw the queen mary one where someone tampered with the evidence, I take anything on this show with a huge grain of salt.

It amazes me that this show is on the air, because every episode is exactly the same.

I cant link it, it was recorded on a old analog device. it was not house noise, environmental or my imagination. i was in a cemetery ghost hunting and i asked a series of questions. on play back when i asked if there was anybody here, a childs voice is clearly heard saying "i am" immediatly after i asked that. that was the only sound i captured.

say what you will, but i was the only one there and i did not hear a thing. so if anybody has a scientific explanation on this please let me know. Im not saying it was a ghost but i sure would like to know what i recorded.

I've seen one or two episodes. The thing I don't understand is that they use night vision cameras. I guess the producers think this makes the show scary, but I would bring more lights into the areas and really illuminate everything. What annoys me most about the show is that they chase shadows. I want to SEE things...not be forced to rely on crappy footage.

I have no explanation for it, but I can't help but think of all the fundies who would listen to Led Zeppelin songs backwards and claim that they were hearing hidden satanic messages in the lyrics.
Anything played backwards sounds that way....

Anyhow, EVP is crap. It's too easy to fake. Because things are going digital, I expect to see a lot of "bleedover" going away and less EVP fanatics out there...but then again, who knows what nuts believe this stuff. When my dead grandfather tries to communicate to me through my toaster, I'll believe in EVP.

The ONLY interesting/questiobale thing they have ever found was a thermal camera on a foot locker. The locker showed an image of "a human body" even though they were the only ones in the room.
Otherwise, its a load of crap far as I can tell.

My wife really digs the show though. I tell her "Let me know when Fear Factor puts 50k on the table to stay the night in a haunted place"
I'll have 50k in 24 hours.

And this isnt that I dont believe in the supernatural. I've had experiences that there is no logical explanation for. I mean stuff thats downright freaky.

Do tell! I only have one ghost story, and it's not all that interesting. A dryer door opened without any explanation. Big deal!

One time while living in a college dorm my beer disappeard. No explanation....That's about the only ghost story I have...and I've slept in 2 or 3 cemetaries when I was growing up on Halloween, etc... The only thing scary about that is trying to find a place to sleep that's not disrespectful....I don't like to stand on someone's grave.....go figure.

I lived in a *very* old farmhouse. There was always weird noises and stuff.
i dont mean weird creaks from the house settling. Now the thing is, these would happen even when I wasnt alone. Me and my friends would be over and hear people. It was just us downstairs. We would hear someone open the door. We would hear people walk around, we would hear people doing dishes.
The thing that convinces me I'm not crazy is it happened even with friends over. I had 3 other guys over one night smoking and we heard the door. Me and my best friend were used to it, but the other 2 guys werent. They stopped and looked all freaked out "Is your dad here?!"
Nope, just the ghost. They look at me funny. I tell them "Dead serious. Go upstairs and look."
They looked, lights off, no one home.

Happened many times. I was used to it but it was always a little eery when it happened. The sounds really went crazy one night by myself. I mean sounded like someone was cooking a frickin 3 course meal upstairs. I yelled up the stairs "Ok, I'm leavin now", noise stopped, waited a second and walked upstairs went drove into town for the night.

It all came to a climax one evening though. I never thought....it...was all that malicious or annoying. It was kinda like "Casper" in your house. One night me and a friend were watching a movie waiting to go into town. All hell broke loose downstairs (it always happened wherte we werent. If we were downstairs, the noise was upstairs, vice versa.)
I swear to God, on my gravestone, SOMETHING was in the basement. Something that wasnt out friendly otherworldy visitor. It sounde dlike an animal was downtstairs. I mean you could hear snarls, we both heard shelves falling over, jars breaking. It sounded like some animal had fallen into the basement and was tearing the whole place up. I thought (hoped....) it was a badger or something, maybe a skunk that had gotten in.
We were so damned convinced something was down there we got guns. I had a shotgun, friend took the '06.

I cleared the whole basement. I mean EVERYTHING. I cleared every room. I looked underneath everything, in every corner.

Nothing. Nothing was knocked over, no broken jars, nothing. It was completely empty of any out of the ordinary.

I'm not one to spook easy, and I for damn sure dont clear my house with a gun because the dog barked.

To this day I have no idea what it was or what happened. It was one of those unexplainable events.

Now the thing is, theres alot of witnesses to these weird stories I'm telling you. I had many friends over who heard the same stuff. Doors opening, doors closing, people walking on the stairs and the sound of someone doing dishes.

Like I said, I fully believe in the supernatural.

My stories pale in comparison to some of the stories my other family members have.

At least Ghost Hunters is fairly honest. When they don't get anything they admit it. They have caught some interesting stuff, like the thermals mentioned already and the moving chair in the second season light house (which is supernatural or outright fraud, there is no natural explanation). I agree that the prison ghost was questionable. But I believe these guys are mostly honest. They try to do a professional investigation, which is tough when you're praticing a pseudo science. Plus part of the attraction to the show is the personalities involved. So its not all about the ghost hunting.

To put Ghost Hunters in perspective, watch Most Haunted (or Dead Famous or Derek Acorah's Ghosttowns). Someone in the crew throws a pebble and the 'investagators' start screaming like a bunch of Junior High girls at a Halloween Haunted House (yes, the guys too). They are in season six (I believe) and they still do that several times an episode. ANYTIME anything happens, its too scary to stay in the room. These are paranormal investigators? Thats like the exterminator running out of the house because he saw a mouse! And Derek Acorah getting possessed every other episode is pretty stupid, while funny at the same time!

'Most Haunted' makes 'Ghost Hunters' look like National Geographic!

They call specs of dust illuminated by the IR LEDs on the camera "energy". They have to be complete retards or good actors.

That is such a big pet peeve of mine.

"ohhh we see orbs in our photos!"

Well no ******, I can kick up dust and get 10,000 orbs with a camera flash.

I saw one where they captured something. They were in an old armory that is actually somewhere in my neck of the woods (Boston). They were in some room moving equipment around when one of the guy's carrying the boom had his bag, one of those hip slung ones, full of equipment just suddenly fly up and slam him in the face. It was actually caught on tape and you just saw the bag go from sitting on his hip to all up in his face biatch. They had the thermal camera running and a few seconds before it happened, something really hot passed in front of it.

i watched Most Haunted last year and its a total fraud. That Derek guy is a complete fake and the show does give the impression that they try to make things happen. Like you said about Ghost Hunters they stay honest. if they dont find anything they say so.
