The fan is dead silent, the noise I was referring to is component whine. It is audible in games, but more so during tests.

This component whine is maybe coil squeak? I had it in GTX260 and GTX275 during graphic load...

I installed mine on Friday.. it's certainly faster than the 285 I have, but it has some funkiness (namely it will not idle, and refuses to be forced to idle).

It is fast, quiet and doesn't go over 50c during BFBC2. But it doesn't idle, has some weird visual distortions on the heat pipes that make it look cheap, and really increases case temps. I can reroute a few of my fans solve the last one though.

Hopefully the GV-R587UD-1GD get's a BIOS update soon.. if not the card will be a bit of a disappointment, especially coming from Gigabyte.

I know from GB source, that they will for sure release a BIOS, it's in beta testing phase.

Really? Keep us informed if you can. You know, I never looked to see if this card even had Powerplay support when I got it. I only noticed it reducing clocks, then suddenly not reducing clocks anymore. It does not say on the box, in the manual, or on Gigabyte's website that it has Powerplay support.

Is it just me, or does the fan on this do pretty much nothing? I've got it at 60% and my temp at idle is 38c. It's the same temperature when the fan is at 25% also.

That sounds like 8C over ambient. There are limits to what a HSU + Fan can do without refrigeration. Test it at load.

I just updated my card to the F5 BIOS, however Powerplay still seems to be inoperative. It could be this BIOS was released to fix the UVD issues people were having? Did the UVD issue only affect Blueray movie playback because all other HD content seemed to work with my card and I dont have a Blueray drive to test BL playback with?

I just saw it this morning.. I have not tried it yet. By the way another BIOS update has been posted at that link, version F6_A. That one at least mentions idle clock speeds.

F6 fixed them for me, but still GSOD. I swear, this is the LAST ATI for me

There's a failure in logic. You bought a non-reference board, it's Gigabyte's problem, not ATI/AMD's.
