Gigabyte ga-7dxr or Abit kg7 ???

I am trying to decide between these two boards.

The kg7 has 6 pci slots - the 7dxr has only 5 but has onboard sound...that is kind of a wash unless you need a good soundcard

7dxr has a backup bios.

kg7 has 4 memory slots....7dxr only 3. That wouldn't be such a big deal but gigabytes specs say only 2 gig max with unbuffered memory (3 gig for ecc). kg7 is 4 gig (no mention of less capacity for unbuffered).

anything else major?

certainly the kg7 with 4 dimm slots looks great but how long will we have to wait. People have been speculating that it will be released in a week or two. The review sites usually have reviews a month or two before it goes to retail but not one site has reviewed this board. Maybe a month or two away.

If it will be released next week and I hear something about it on Monday, than I'll order the KG7. Otherwise I'm going for the Gigabyte 7DXR. I hate the onboard sound and the stupid AMR slot they put on it instead of PCI, but it's the only decent mainboard out now that has more than 2 DIMM slots.

ABIT ARE YOU LISTENING to your public? You could at least give us an OFFICIAL release date on the KG7!!!

i would wait for the Abit. This is becuase Abit have spent ages researching DDR and creating hopefully an excellent board. Lets face it, waitng for a month or so ain't so bad for a MOBO that will last for ages, right? See this article which has some info about the new MOBO.

The GA-7DXR looks like the most attractive socket A option right now. It lacks 1MHz FSB adjustment, but I would buy one today if I knew it would support Palomino. I'm afraid it will be months before I can get my hands on a KG7

- The 7DXR has 1 Mhz adjustments up to 250 Mhz in the Bios.
- The 7DXR is supporting Palamino.

Wouldn't all the current 761 based motherboards support the Palimino? Why wouldn't the KG7?

WAD, that is right. However only Gigabyte made so far a clear statement, which of their boards are compatible and which are not. The 7DXR is compatible.

I had assumed that all Mobos with 133FSB would be fine for palomino until I read this:

<< AMD unveiled their new Athlon core with the Athlon 4 a couple weeks ago. While no benchmarks have been published yet, the question remains whether the new processor will work on current motherboards. We took this chance to ask ABIT if they have any information on this topic with respect to their popular KT7A-RAID. He told us that, so far, their testing has been quite positive and that the Athlon 4 chips they have in hand are working properly on the KT7A-RAID.

When asked if this is because the KT7A-RAID has a very wide range of CPU core voltages (from 1.100 ? 1.850 in 0.025V increments), we got a somewhat surprising response. While voltage values available on the board could be an issue, the most important piece of the puzzle is the necessary circuitry for detecting the chip correctly. They said that the circuitry on their current KT7A-RAID is already capable of detecting the Palomino core and that's the main reason why the chip will work on their board, but possibly not on others.
>>

Now I'm scared of any board that doesn't specifically say that it supports palomino.

It's regretable (exception Gigabyte), that the manufactures are so "evasive"
regarding Athlon 4/Palamino compatibilty.

Imagine, you buy now for 200 USD a shiny new DDR board, and in a couple of weeks, they are telling you: sorry!
