Apparently, @Strife212 https://twitter.com/Strife212 managed to install Crysis 3 directly on the VRAM inside a RTX 3090

I installed Crysis 3 on my graphics card! I used some VRAMdrive software called GPU Ram Drive, made a 15GB NTFS partition on the GPU, then installed Crysis 3 on it At 4K very high settings get good fps and the game loads very fast - GPU-Z reports total VRAM use 20434MB

I know it's crazy. I remember back in the early 2000's (I feel old) when one of my friends bought a 32MB card. 8MB was fairly standard to have at the time in a mid/low end system. I remember going to his house to help him install it and we were both excited to see how well Serious Sam would play. At the time it felt like those graphics were incredible. Then a few months later I 1 upped him and bought a 64MB card. I don't think I was old enough to have a credit card at the time so buying online was not an option so I went to a local computer store and basically prepaid for it and they ordered it. It was a pretty big deal. An ATI Radeon 7000 I think it was?

Even system ram back then was way lower than GPUs now.

If she used 15GB to install the game on a ram drive, that left 9Gb for video. At this point we are buying mobo+cpu+ssd only as a scaffold for the GPU.

Probably will get flamed or told to start a thread but I never understood the difference in cards used for CAD/CGI vs. cards we use for gaming. Aside from the CGI part, I would think being able to render frames for gaming would be more demanding than CAD (don't work w/CAD, but have used CAD files before)?

I think it has to do with memory bandwidth like gaming cards have less but faster memory CAD cards have more but slower.
Also I suspect drivers are the main reason.

Validations really. Liability on CAD product as opposed to games.

Not very good ones. $1500 is MSRP, not inflated (at least, by retailers). If you actually want one, they're in such short supply, you'll pay twice that or more on ebay.
