Sometimes I miss that job that was alot of moving girl scout cookies around the warehouse.
A huge pile of boxes of girl scout cookies that couldn't be sold due to box damage. The box could have been tore up, but the cookies were in pristine condition.
MMmm free cookies.

I have tried them all. I don't like any of them.

not to mention they go for $4 a box and her troop gets i think like $.50 per box. really its lame.

gotta hit my parents up tomorrow and guilt them into buying like 10 box's. she needs at least 10 to get a badge. she wants the IPOD (her MP3 player broke) wich is 1200 box's..

really 1200 box's thats nuts.

Wow, only 50c per box? That's really bad. I thought it was a lot more than that, hence part of the reason why I bought them (to support the scouts).

Shut your mouth. Caramel Delights, a.k.a. Samoas, are the greatest cookies ever.

lies. damn damn lies.

well a good portion goes to "council" (not 100% sure on this) wich does help to pay for some stuff for all the troops. but its really not fair how they go about it.

IF you really want to help the troop you can make a donation to the troop and they do not have to send it in. which is what most of my family does.

Yet another company has turned kids into their personal slaves. Girl scouts get 50 cents per box and tons of incentives to sell more and more boxes. Meanwhile, the company making those cookies makes out like bandits.

Think about it - she needs to sell 10 to get a badge. That's $5 profit for the scouts. Just give her a $10 donation and it's like she sold 20 boxes. The "teaches the kids..." crap... what percentage of boxes are sold by parents? I'd bet the majority nationwide.

People should just start supporting these worthwhile kids organizations without allowing all these companies to latch on and take the lion's share of profits.

.

The money that goes to the council goes to pay for all of the support staff salaries(executive director, membership staff, accountant). It also goes to pay for the properties that the council owns(summer camps), and the staff that runs the camps. Some of the money does go to pay for programs and supplies, but mostly you are paying for the council staff.

i agree. thats why i tell friends/family to just donate if they really want to help (that stays with the troop). though we do make sure she gets her badge heh.

oh yeah they also sent home a "donation" sheet where they want teh family to donate money to council. it ranges from $10-250 and if you donate you get listed in teh girl scout yearly book and another badge.

the troop leader said she hated it but they were asked to do it.

still not as bad as boy scouts...yet.

In addition to the $.50 that goes to the troop (if true) and whatever goes to the bakery, I assume there's also money that goes to the national Girl Scouts organization. I'm sure the Girl Scouts are getting a competitive price from the bakeries that provide the cookies, so a lot of the money probably goes to the national organization. If funding for the national organization didn't come from cookies, it'd have to come from the parents. So even if the troop only gets $.50, they're benefiting more than that.

Seconded. I like the peanut butter/chocolate ones too (forgot their names) and the Thin Mints.

EDIT: Maybe they're called Tagalongs?

IndyColtsFan yes they're Tagalongs and they own! I have yet to find the same kinda cookie outside of when the girl scouts sell em. I'll definitely be buying a box soon. If anyone know of a Keebler or other brand that makes a Tagalong like cookie please do tell

waggy lies and is either a jaded diabetic or never even tried a girl scout cookie. No one can tell me they don't like ANY of the cookies they put out, it's simply impossible not to like either Samoas, Thin Mints or the lemon frosted ones.

Back on topic:
Girl Scout cookies took a dive way back before most folks on this forum were born and then never recovered. Thin Mints used to be a thin cookie with mint cream covered in good chocolate. Then sometime around 1978-80 they dropped the mint cream and replaced the good chocolate with paraffin.
