cr-v is the top seller in its class for a reason, everyone loves theirs...

i've driven the latest crv and it drives very well, many high end features from the accord and pilot trickle down to the CR-V. The quality of the interior is very good and the reliability should be nothing but stellar. Many friends and relatives with one dating back to 1997 with 250k+ miles, still on all original parts except regular maintenance. Shes making a good choice with the cr-v

Every car is reliable if you maintain it well.

*cough*

What? lol

By maintain it well, do you mean "replace everything that breaks"?

Not to dis Suzuki, but your logic is severely flawed.

Suzuki's aren't exactly known for being worth much here in the states.

If she wants a manual then check out a Subaru Forester. Should fit the budget and is roughly the size of the CR-v, maybe a bit larger inside. I think it looks a whole lot better though.

I think this tells the story quite well. I would not recommend a Suzuki:

btw, Subaru's are very reliable especially in base form which is what she would be getting. Their number gets a bit elevated due to their performance models.

Whoa, where have I been? Jaguar is #2? Where are my ice skates? Time to pay hell a visit...

I actually die inside when people say things like that. For one thing the vast majority of parts on a car have no maintenance schedule whatsoever. How do you maintain your rotors? Your CV joints? Your struts? Your alternator? Your air conditioning compressor? Your electrical system? These either break or they don't, no amount of oil changes and regular trips to the dealer will do a damn lick of good keeping a car running well that was sloppily put together and/or used bad parts and/or simply engineered badly.

They've been in that spot for a number of years. Course, during this time they weren't really making new products just refining existing ones so it wasn't that difficult. I suspect their spot will fall now that they have introduced a few new models.

Suzuki's cars have horrendous depreciation rates; worse than Kia.

Tell your GF to test drive two cars:

2010 Hyundai Tucson
2010 Honda CR-V

The RAV-4 is overpriced, the new Outlander is okay...I wouldn't even bother with the Sportage or Grand Vitara unless you're buying used because the first year depreciation hit on them is staggering (yes, even more staggering than the typical depreciation on a new car).

Exactly, the depreciation a Suzuki takes the second you drive it out of the showroom should scare anyone considering it.
Next go to locate Suszuki dealers and see where you'll have to go to have the car repaired under warranty.

That's assuming they're still selling the vehicle in the US 3 or 4 years from now.
Buy the CR-V.

The last time I actually knew anybody who owned a suzuki was almost 20 years ago, one of those ones that looked like (and they did) they would roll over in a light breeze.

The biggest surprise to me is that Suzuki still sells vehicles in the US. I don't know where the dealerships are or who's buying them or how they are possibly getting the money for R&D. Their sales must be egregious, they aren't bought by consumers or fleets.

Actually on second thoughts somebody in my 'hood has two newer Suzukis.
