How come i dont hear much discussion on glossy screen monitors like the Sony SDM hp95 xbrite monitor, benq, ctx, and hp.. i ssaw these at the store and was very amazed.. does anyone know if theres disadvantages with having it?
I have a pair of the NEC 17" with Opticlear (their brand for Xbrite)... The color vibrancy is awesome and the glare is minimal in my den which has low ambient lighting. I opted for dual monitors over a giant widescreen primarily for this reason (glossy screen) and also because of the other benefits of running dual monitors (particularly while gaming).
The only disadvantage I can think of it that it can be a little too reflective when the lights are on . . . since it acts pretty much as a mirror . . .
Not that I care though . . . I have one of these screens on my laptop and it's sweet . . . I do have to clean it constantly though . . .
I have a Compaq/HP notebook with a 14" WVGA BriteView. The colors look great, but the screen can be hard to view in direct sunlight. We use the notebook as a portable DVD player in our minivan where it does a good job. If you are looking at the monitor off angle AND there is a light source causing glare this results in a negative color effect where the dark parts of the picture catch most of the reflection and show up as light. I still like it better that the standard LCDs. The BriteView was a $100 option last year and has now dropped to $25. It was a free option on my deal so I got it.
