Damn, you guys are putting up huge numbers. I guess it's good motivation though for me.

I just started lifting about 1.5 months ago and I didn't realize how weak I am until then. So I don't really have any goals set. Do you guys have any idea of where I should be at by January? I know it won't be much. I'm doing SS btw.

Right now I am 6'1 195lbs

squat: 165
deadlift: 160
bench: 105
military press: 65
row: 90

They're low I know.

My progress so far has been kind of low, I wasn't going to the gym consistently at the start but have been improving. My squat has gone up about 50lbs, deadlift about 20-30, bench press very little, and military press and row haven't changed much.
I need to work on my form, so I haven't been testing my maxes.

It's amazing what a little knowledge and training disruptions will do to your goals.

1.) Cycle 100km over rolling terrain in under 3hrs by mid November.
- Still well on track and about to start serious cycle training again.

2.) Row a 2000m indoor time trial in under 7min by May.
3.) Row a 5000m trial in under 18min by September.
- I'm afraid I gave up on this one. Work commitments meant I couldn't train with my crew and I don't enjoy training on a rowing machine just for the sake of training on a rowing machine.

4.) Goal weights by the end of winter strength training (July):
Leg press: 300kg
Squat: 160kg
Bench press: 100kg
- Well, this is embarrassing . I bought and read Starting Strength and guess what? My technique was not nearly up to scratch.
I've now been following Stronglifts and am sitting at 5x5x85kg for squats and 5x5x55kg for bench. This is as high as I'll go this year. I'll set more realistic goals when I restart weight training next year.

5.) Drop to single figure body fat by November.
- I was still at 16% in May and have been at a stable 83-84kg body weight since then. I've still got three months to go and am about to start some serious cardio training - let's see how it goes.

My goal for 2008 (starting 10/1/1008) is to begin a diet and exercise plan that, while light and "easy", I can stick to. 2009's goal will be to stick with it and ramp it up to get into better shape!

I always have a hard time making goals for the year at the beginning of the year. I work better when I break it down in 6 month increments. So, my goal was to quit smoking (I pretty much did with a few exceptions when I was drunk). My next goal is to quit drinking alcohol completely.
My final goal is to lose 45 pounds by the end of 3/2009.

255lb Bench Press
545lb Deadlift

5'8" 198lbs

I'd like to exceed all of those "goal" numbers, but those represent mile markers that I intend to achieve come hell or high water. I have bigger numbers in mind, but I'm not quite ready to schedule them for 2008.

Current PRs:
551lb Squat
301lb Bench Press
601lb Deadlit
170lb Press

5'8" 210

I haven't been doing any pressing. I'm not sure whether 210 will happen by the end of the year. The 315lb bench press will be happening very soon.

Congrats on reaching some of your goals, man. Since you're dominantly a weightlifter, I was wondering how your cardio and efficiency on other tasks is (sprinting, quickness, etc). I know these are not your goals, but it would be interesting to know if you had the time. Thanks and congratulations again.

I'd say I'm probably quicker for 100m or less, but slower after that. The top end strength helps you get up to speed/accelerate, but the added mass hurts your endurance. My jumping ability has improved slightly, though it would be much better if I trained that skill set. My cardio capacity is better than the average person, but I would struggle with completing a 5k without walking because my muscles are not trained for that at all.

To win my division (Masters 45-49, SHW) in the USPF Sr National powerlifting championship.
To win my division (Masters 45-49, SHW) in the WPF World powerlifting championship.
To be in my all time biggest and most cut condition while peaking for either contest.
For health reasons this HAS to be my final year as a super heavyweight, so it's now or never...

Oops - those are my goals for 2009 - lol.
This year I reached my all time best condition, but didn't hit any single rep personal records, or win any national or world titles

Think it's time for Koing to change it to Goals for 2009.

Anyways, my goals are to start StrongLifts and to get stronger. Now whether that actually happens or not, we'll wait and see.

If you can start it, you can get stronger. There's no question about that

Goals:
Weigh 155 at ~10% body fat (currently ~152 with probably 12-13% BF from bulking)
Squat 300 (1 rep max)
Military Press 150 (1RM)
Bench 250 (1RM)
Be able to run a 400m in under 50 seconds (sprinters FTW)
Survive the Navy Seal Crossfit workout :Q

New goals for 2009:

Stay injury free, even if it means taking things slower than I'd like.
Get into the aesthetic shape I was in when I finished bulking.
Squat 350+ pounds.
Deadlift 400+ pounds.
Be able to run a 400m under 50 seconds.
And for shiggles: one arm pullups.

I know I can get all of these goals if I can stay consistent. In 10 weeks I met all of my previous goals. I know I can push my body to reach these new goals, but I need to be more aware of potential degeneration of joints, muscles, etc. No injuries this year. Only success.

" No injuries this year. Only success. "

It's called thinking positive and knowing my limits so essentially, yes, it is something I can decide on.

PS: It's a goals thread. Not a "let's try to piss on people's parades" thread

Should be a fun year.

I'd like to drop about 30 pounds, get my bench back above 300, squat above 400 and deadlift back above 500. Losing the weight though is going to slow down the other goals...
going to check out gyms tomorrow

well, xrays and crap back from the doctor today, and i'm all set to go. so this year, is more of the same:

1) don't get hurt. at least nothing serious. even with all the football and sports i play, hopefully i can stay healthy.
2) i've lost a little weight being out of the gym so much in 2008. want to gain around 10-15lbs, hopefully 15, we'll see how this year goes.

won't be getting back into squats or deads for probably another month until my back gets healthy and strong. hopefully i can get the weight up this year if i'm healthy, want to hit 315lb squat.

I'm going to leave this pinned for the end of January/ February for people to reference their goals and then to post in the new 2009 Goals thread.

SC, I have very similar physical stats to you (~158lbs/5'8"). Trying to figure out my bf%, because the BF scales I've used all say ~18.5%, but my friends I work out with and people in the workout forums I post to say based on my pic that it should be significantly lower.

I have similar goals to you as well, with the exception of the squat (I have no access to squat equipment).

Would you care to share your regimen/tips?

some of you guys best be careful and prepared what lies ahead when you are older like me... i did all that stuff (heavy heavy training)....now that I am 41...i regret it. just be careful...you guys feel bullet proof now as I did back then, buy are are really prematurely wearing things out and placing great deals of stress on your joints. watch your spine and neck. i have a disc that needs to come out and knees that are crazy... i squatted beastly amounts, deadlifted hardcore, benched...and probably had some of the strongest triceps (could dip repetitions with 150lb dumbbell wrapped around me.)..but now i just wished i did moderate lifting and concentrated more on core strength and endurance. enjoy the rush that it gives you. only advice i can give you is to heed your injuries and most certainly do not neglect your flexibility...i now do yoga to help with that and lift in my nice home gym with lower weights and more reps. - be well all and be careful
