So well today i ordered my x1800xt and new pcie mobo. And like my luck EVERYTIME i order a new part, here comes the headline.

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=28540

TextATi R580 will come in four versions

Countdown: T minus 30 days...

ALTHOUGH SOME web sites reported that the upcoming R580 chip will come in three different versions, the fact is that R580 chip will replace the R520 line entirely. The new products will be named Radeon X1900XL, X1900XT and X1900XT CrossFire Edition. There is a rumour of another naming convention, with the names X1900XT ("T" instead of an "L"), X1900XTX (The Boss, King, Macho) and X1900XTX CrossFire Edition (albeit a little slower clocked than a big boss).
Besides this plain vanilla 3D boards, ATI will also rollout the refresh of All-in-Wonder product, which actually - was the reference board ATI is actually using to demonstrate the R580 chip to its valuable customers and partners. We haven't been able to confirm the clockspeeds of the product, but since we learned that new All-in-Wonder demo boards come with 1.26ns GDDR-3 memory, it isn't too hard to figure that possible memory clock for X1900XL(T?) is 1.5 GHz, giving out 48GB/s of bandwidth. That would be clear 16 GB/s wider than current AiW model, based on R520XL chip.

It looks like ATI wants to give every pixel to get the performance back... so the R520 will rest in peace after only three and half months. October 5th 2005 - January 24th, 2006.

I don't think you will be able to return it if you used it unless you say it didn't work (assuming they don't test it to see if it does). I would still wait. When the X1900 XT does become availalbe you are gonna with you had waited if you kept the X1800 XT.

I say cancel it....since your already buying a X1800XT (which cost A LOT), why not just buy the cheapest (or one that you can justify buying) PCIe card...

Stick with what you have coming. There is always something new around the corner. And 30 day waits for videocards can turn into several month waits depending on yield, production problems, demand, etc. You can always sell your new card when they are truly available.

then keep it.

i think its clear that most people think the 1900 will in fact dominate the 1800xt. i do.

it comes down to what a months worth of gaming pleasure is worth to you.

i'm sure you'll still be able to ebay the 1800xt for decent bank shortly after the 1900 comes out.

It will all be worth it in the end. And when that time rolls around you will be glad you did.

Just think of how you will feel when the R580 becomes available. You will beat yourself over the head if you didn;t wait.

Cancel your order man.

Get something else that will retain its value much better and at the same time, will run your games at an acceptable resolution/detail.

x800gto2 FTW.

Resale it when r580 comes out.

I wouldn't wait in your situation, since that's too long to be w/o a good video card

But personally, i am waiting...not cause i want an X1900, but since i'm hoping that will bring down prices on the X1800s/7800s

you can always get the x1600xt, there pretty cheap for about $150 range and the performance is decent enough to get by 4 weeks of waiting.

just my 2 cents.
