Thanks for bringing up "Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto" by Mark Levin.

This is a book that was written way before Obama was elected and it has proved extraordinarily prescient.

Without ever having been reviewed by either the New York Times or the Washington Post, the book has now sold one million copies according to its publisher, Threshold Editions.

It debuted at No. 1 on the New York Times best seller list and has remained in the Top Ten on that list for 24 straight weeks. It is currently No. 7.

Yet few liberals that I know have actually read it.

I have said it before, willful blindness to the positions and arguments of your opponent is cowardice.

(OK, I did not say it quite that strongly before, but this is more accurate a depiction of the old "ostrich head in sand" syndrome I am witnessing here and elsewhere. :laugh

I'm sure it'll be full of wisdom, like her comment in HK last week that the economic crises was caused by TOO MUCH REGULATION of the markets.

Plus extra kudos for herself on the phantom pipeline that will never be built.

The other 80% of the book will be about her being the victim of the vicious media.

Awesome, PJABBER and spidey07 have found each other, this should be a good social/physics experiment. On the social side it should be fun to watch the two compete for mantle of best right wing troll, and on the physics side we should be able to find out if there's a threshold at which stupidity/insanity reaches critical mass.

Who's blind to Palin's positions and arguments? Palin's positions and arguments can be contained in a single paragraph.

What Palin has filled up an entire book with is her "journey" to nowhere

Wasn't that what happened in 2004?

I am wondering if the book will wind up being a highly effective populist call to arms and will sway a great number of dissatisfied voters to reject incumbency no matter what the party affiliation.

Remember, Palin gained great credibility and popularity by removing corrupt Republicans before she took on the Democrats. She is really an independent reformer more than she is a Republican Party loyalist.

My thoughts, and the polls confirm this, are that the country is ready to chuck the whole gaggle of self serving politicians now in power out and start fresh. Obama, the Ineffective One, represents one direction and Palin represents the other. That is why Obama waged his campaign against Palin and not McCain.

Sorry, partisans, your flackery is not going to be worth beans if this underlying dissatisfaction finds a coherent voice. And Palin might just be that voice, if not the actual politician that rises to represent this broad dissatisfaction.

Books are still powerful. They are espousals of ideals and of intent. Some serve to confirm entrenched positions and others serve to break them down. My guess is that Palin's book will attempt the latter.

Wow, that clinches it, you are such a partisan whore it's unbelievable. Why don't you just stamp "R" on your forehead and get it over with?

The more you strike Sarah Palin down the more she will rise to become what you can't possibly imagine, in this case, doubtlessly a best selling author.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Mommy Mommy, please spank me.

By the way, a huge hole left unfilled in Levin's "Liberty and Tryanny" is his statement that

"In a civil society, the individual . . . has a duty as a citizen to contribute voluntarily to the welfare of his community through good works."

Therein lies one of the major failures in conservative theory. Among the problems:

How can an individual have a duty to contribute voluntarily to the welfare of the community?

and

What is government to do when individuals do NOT adequately peform this duty to contribute, especially when the actions of individuals have badly harmed others?

For example, if the actions of corporations devastate the economy, and thereby badly harm blameless individuals (through loss of savings, unemployment, inflation, unavailable credit, etc), and the corporations do not (or do not have the means to) make their victims whole, their "duty to contribute" has been abrograted. Yet, according to conservative theory, for government to step in and mitigate or help correct the damage is unconstitutional.

The conservative response to this gross iniquity is, "People should be responsible for their own welfare." In other words, when one of the central tenets of a "civil society" is violated, tough titties.

I wouldn't mind being spanked by Palin. She doesn't need to be smart for that.

I agree it will sell millions, but so did Mein Kampf and the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. In fact, both are still very popular books.

Don't forget these huge bestsellers though -

The Little Red Book
The Audacity of Hope
Dreams of My Father (with uncredited ghost writer Bill Ayers)

:laugh:I wonder how many posters here suspect/believe but do not admit that Dreams Of My Father was actually written by Weatherman William Ayers?

The following quote is taken from Christopher Andersen's new book, Barack and Michelle: Portrait of an American Marriage -

"In the end, Ayers's contribution to Barack's Dreams from My Father would be significant--so much so that the book's language, oddly specific references, literary devices, and themes would bear a jarring similarity to Ayers's own writing."

About as many who "suspect/believe but do not admit" that they think Obama was born in Kenya. The GOP is one big conspiracy theory group. It's fascinating to watch reality just bounce off of them.

Kirk Cameron Presents: "Origin of Species: With a Special Forward Containing the Gospel and Intelligent Design"

If they package these 2 together I see megabucks! Only question is who will play Palin in the inevitable movie version? Tina Fey is too obvious.
