I'm into meeting random, cool people and i've definitely met a few on these fora who are win. Never been to San Diego, so anyone that wants to hang out and show me fun things while i'm there is welcome to do so. There's a party on Coronado Island that i may be able to get you into. Going to be busy during the days just about every day, but early mornings and nights will be free for the most part. I'll have a car and hotel room while i'm out there as well.

I won't be in SD but I was there a month ago. If you are staying downtown, everything is within walking distance of you. I stayed at the Sheraton (7th and A street) and walked to Balboa Park, Petco Park, Maritime Museum, Gaslamp, etc. There were still a lot of things I didn't get to see.

Rent a car if you can!! It's fun driving around SD, just know that most streets are one-way.

I found out today that i'll be staying at the Holiday Inn Express in the downtown area and won't need a car, because the event i'm attending is really close to the hotel.

So, i've heard that Taka Sushi, Panda Inn @ Horton Plaza, and there's a lot of Thai/sushi places on Hillcrest that are great places to munch.

Any other places you like?

Wow, you people are great

I don't go to zoos. They makes me sad.

A friend told me about Balboa Park. Will definitely check that out.

What beaches are good near downtown?

H&M Landing is cool if you like fishing: http://www.hmlanding.com/
All of the big long range sport fishing boats operate out of there. Usually when they come back after a trip they weigh some of the largest fish (can be over 200lbs) for jackpots, if you're very lucky you may see some. Then there's all the boats, yachts, etc. There's also a good fish market there, extremely popular.

Balboa park has some nice museums. The USS Midway aircraft carrier is a fun tour (self guided, just wander around all you want), they have various aircraft aboard.

Yeah, i do like fishing a lot; however, i don't think i'll have a lot of time for it while i'm there. It would be great to take a half day trip on one of those boats though.

Well I do what I can. I do aim to please the masses.

Edit: by the way there are a couple of exotic car rental places near the airport. Rent a Corvette and feel different for a weekend.

San Diego is pretty awesome. I was there about 2 years ago.

Everything worthwhile in the city is within walking distance. However, I suggest renting a car and driving up the coastline. If you do this, make sure you stop at a few locations... namely: La Jolla, San Juan Capistrano missionary, and Santa Barbara. Those were my favorite places from my trip and I highly recommend them.

Santa Barbara is kinda NOT in San Diego.

Maybe that's why I suggested renting a car and taking a day trip?

Santa Barbara is a solid four hours driving from San Diego. Even worse, you go straight through Los Angeles.

If you rent a car, drive conservatively on the freeway. Expect California drivers to be idiots.

Do visit the Maritime History Museum if you have the time, and stop by La Jolla and Torrey Pines.

Meh, San Diego to me is a forty-by-forty mile area from downtown/Coronado up to Oceanside, and all the way inland to Julian.

If you are downtown try to catch a Padre game if they are in town. There's a ton of cool bars. Try Elevation at the marriot, bar at the top of th hotel overlooking petco park and all of downtown (GREAT VIEW). If you're into clubbing you can go to Stingaree, On Broadway, Onyx Room, or Below. If you're just looking for regular bars I'd check out the Field. There's a really good asian restaurant I go to frequently on Island and 5th. Its called Red Peal Kitchen, unbelievable food and hot waitresses definitely check it out.
