Finding a good driver is sort of like looking for the best lover. You have to find 'the one' that fits you and your swing style. Go to a local golf mart, heck your local driving range might even have demo clubs for you to try. Try them all and see what you can hit CONSISTENTLY. Don't look at the brand, don't look at the wow factor, get the one that works well for you. A $500 driver won't mean squat when you make a fool out of yourself when you flub it all the time. This will lower your confidence and the club will end up not being used. There's nothing better when you see someone with a no name brand clubs, smash the balls consistenly.

If you don't get satisfaction through MacGregor by taking it back to Dick's, your cheapest solution would be to reshaft the same head rather than buying a whole new driver. If it's a modern head that's at least 400cc with the right loft for you that would be the best thing to do. Reshafting with a decent shaft would be well under $50.

Keep us posted on this as I'd be interested in hearing what happens with the work. Callaway and Ping are usually great about repairs while Taylormade and Titleist are often impossible to deal with. I've never heard anything good or bad about MacGregor, it would be nice to see how they handle it.

I went to Dicks and he took my name and phone number down and said the pro shop manager will call MacGregor and work something out. He isn't sure if it will be new or used.

Also interesting, the Dicks near me doesn't carry MacGregor anymore. Ugh, maybe I'll get a new one right from the manufacturer. Regardless I should probably be on the lookout for a replacement I'm thinking.

Thanks for the help guys. Ill let you know when they call and what is happening.

You just need to practice more. I decided to really learn to play golf this year, took some lessons and went from can't hit the ball to a pretty decent player in about 9 months. It just comes down to practicing the right things. Take some lessons if you can.

You might want to consider a hybrid to replace your 3 and/or 4 iron, much easier to hit.

there's only one type of irons, and only one type of irons to get; and that's fitted clubs. It doesn't matter how much damn technology is in the club. It means nothing if it doesn't fit you.
If the club doesn't fit you, you'll injure yourself, and start bad habits.

Not really, I used to have a real hard time with any long - medium irons. I always used fairway woods instead.

If you can "sweep' the ball off the fairway, great. If not, hit down on it a bit. You'll get a higher flight from the induced backspin.

BTW: If you've been watching Tiger Woods and some of the other pro's, they are now hitting down on the ball with their driver even from the tee.

Ill see what they say, if it is too much money or they can't do anything for me, then I'll be in the market for a new driver.

sounds like you are trying to talk yourself into buying a new driver instead of getting it fixed for FREE.

those MacGregor V-Foil drivers have the weirdest sound, I didn't like em at all.

QFT. I just got 'new' clubs, my irons were 17 years old! Got everything on ebay:

Taylormade R7 XD 4-PW + AW
Taylormade R7 3 + 5 woods
Taylormade Quad 9.5 driver
Taylormade RAC 56 + 60 TP wedges
Taylormade Monza Rossa Corza putter

All were used except the 3 + 5 woods, and the putter. I was amazed at how much my game improved and I've only used them a few times. Roll on 2007 golf season.......

And there's a 75% chance that at least one of those clubs is authentic and not counterfeit.

E-bay is a very dangerous place to buy OEM clubs, there are a lot of fakes out there.

absolutely true. with the ridiculous amount of hijacked accounts and fakes coming in from china, i am much more hesitant about buying from ebay now.

Haha, yea well after using that other driver I kind of think that it might be part of the reason why I'm not breaking 250 consistently (As far as accuracy, my shots normally don't slice; I normally have a very nice straight shot. I guess I probably should focus on getting Irons as opposed to a driver if this works out.

Yeah the noise is weird. If you hit it dead center....and I mean perfect the noise is different. Instead of a ping you get like the POW. My friend drove one about 280 Yards with my driver, but it took that perfect shot.

I looked at Ebay, and it makes me uneasy ordering such an expensive precise piece of equipment off of them. I don't mind used, but Ebay Golf makes me uneasy.

I don't think anybody responded to your Adams question, but I've always been a big fan of their Irons / Hybrids. I've never tried the GT series, but I really liked the A2 Irons. If those are any indicator of what the GTs are, then I'd say go for them. Besides, $200 for a set of Irons seems pretty good. :Q

Have you tried hitting graphite vs steel shafts?

Not with Irons. I have steel shafts in the ones I have right now. That seems fine, but I guess I could try graphite shafts.

In the Drivers I have tried both and prefer Graphite (Or Titanium )
