Good small-LAN games?

Does anyone have any suggestions about good games for 2-4 way multiplayer games?
Preferably cooperative.

Me and my friends are getting a little tired of playing the same games over and over.

Examples of games we've played and liked:
Doom 1 & 2
WarCraft 2&3, StarCraft
Total Annihilation
C&C and RA
Quake 1 & 3
Half Life

Seems like FPS' or RTS's are our thing

Games we haven't liked:
Age of Anything, the whole series sucks
C & C Generals, funny, but too buggy.

Oh and I might add that new or old doesn't make much of a difference, if there are any golden oldies we've missed, that's just as good as the latest and greatest

I found Vietcong to be real fun in coop mode on a small LAN. Three to four people is a blast.

Myth 2 has really fun multiplayer, quite a few different game types besides battle to the finish. If you do get it be sure to go here to get the latest patch. You can probably find "Myth: Total Codex" for pretty cheap, it comes with Myth 1, 2, and an expansion for Myth 2. The expansion is freely downloadable though, I know I have seen Myth 2 in the budget bin for $5.

Serious Sam Co-op multiplayer is good for a change of pace from deathmatch. Really hectic and fast paced.

If you do like co-op Rogue Spear and Raven Shield have it. Not quite as fast paced as Serious Sam but still fun.

Red Alert 2 with the Yuri expansion is more of the same type of C&C game, just new units and strategies. It may be worth a try also.

Mechwarrior 3 & 4 are fun, but a lot of the satisfaction comes from customizing your mech and then being successful in battle. Not really a jump in and go type game as there are little quirks to each weapon and chassis.

Rise of Nations is a cool one to play. Also Heros III is what used to dominate our playtime in the CAD room at highschool. I think Heros IV is out now though...

I went to a small LAN yesterday where they were trying to get up a game of Battlefield 1942 with that Desert Combat mod installed. While not very fun with 5 or 6 people you can get some entertainment out of it by trying to collide the airplanes midflight.

Raven Shield. If you play the right maps it can be intense as hell, even with only 4 people. If you do get it, let me know. I've got hundreds of maps, I'd be glad to recommend some.

Duke3D and Shadow Warrior are awesome multiplayer.

Master of Orion 2 is good, but it takes a while (It's a TBS game).

As long as you can get it working, the co-op rocks. I don't know why, but I've always had problems with it on LAN. High quality either way. Plus, it's super cheap now.

System Shock 2 - best co-op game ever!

Also try Legacy Doom (if you still have the old Doom WAD files)..you wont be disappointed!

Thanks for the tips people, I can't believe I've never tried out SS, considdering how much I've heard about it.
Is SS2 as good as SS by the way?

We've been playing a fair bit of JDoom, which looks rather familiar to Doom Legacy, playing coop on the Plutonia/Final Doom episode rocks, the ultimate gorefest

Of course a good ole E1M1 deathmath is pretty gory as well

SS2 just adds a couple new weapons and monsters, they are both equally fun. People may like one more than another for whatever reasons but they are close enough together as far as gameplay goes. Both are worth playing in my opinion.

I love playing Rise of Nations on my network. It's intense and alot of screen action. In big battles my 2nd pc (p3 866 - 512 MBs RAM - Radeon 7500) gets about 10 FPS =\. sucks for my friends. hahahah.

Well, I included RoN in the Age series, seeing as it's pretty much just AoE III IMO, and I still don't like it

If you play SS2, be sure to turn out the lights and turn up the volume when you play. I don't think I've ever jumped as much when I played that game.

I think that natural selection is a totally cool halflife mod and it can be really fun once you get used to the team tactics required. It's kind of a RTS/First person shooter.

Games are really intense once you have about 6 or more people playing

We have been playing a lot of BF1942 in coop mode with bots. The bots do kind of suck though. We have also played desert combat coop with bots. It is best if you can setup a dedicated server for it. Also a lot of fun is going online and playing as a team.

We also play empire earth a lot coop. This game's AI is HARD, we usually play 4 vs 2 cpu and it will usually take almost 7 hours to finish one game! Of course we kind of suck.
