Holy shit the Switch Nindies presentation was amazing:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-mFODSa2VM&feature=youtu.be

Overcooked, a new Master Blaster, and Hollow Knight? Hell yes! All of those games would be amazing on the system.

I have to say, I think Nintendo is doing a good job going after the developers that the Switch can appeal to. It seemed like they tried to get the AAA western develoeprs to play ball early-on with the Wii U and all they got was warmed over crap from them. With the Switch it seems Nintendo is targeting developers that can give the type of game experiences that Nintendo traditionally offers and if AAA western developers want to also port some old game that is fine too.

This is what Nintendo needed to do and they are doing it. Next stop hopefully is an E3 with the announcement of huge 1st and 2nd party games (ie Metroid and Pokemon) along with VC.
The problem with Indie titles is that they aren't system sellers, if someone is getting the system already then it's great but unfortunately the mass public isn't going to buy a Switch for indie games.

Early Switch Console reviews are not that great.

Kotaku, The Verge, IGN gave it less than stellar reviews

Everyone seems to be talking about joycons losing sync.

IGN said they had problems with Zelda dropping well below 30 fps in TV mode.

Yeah I was just talking about for me. Nintendo probably can't reach the mass public market unless the system has a Pokemon Go-style hit that can't be predicted.

The reviews all seem to divide it into two pieces. Overall the consensus is it is an ok to excellent portable console, and a crappy to adequate home console. Overall though I don't see any new real information other than the BOTW performance issues are a little troubling. Also it seems the Joycon grip sucks. Makes me glad I ordered two pro controllers.

LOL so wait a minute - the controllers need direct line of access to the console for them to work? If that is the case that is 100% a deal breaker for me.

Mine just shipped from Best Buy. Looking forward to trying it out. I'll reserve my judgement until I have it in hand.

It seems from the reviews all the menu's are in 720p even docked which makes everything blurry especially with a 4k tv

And umm the Switch even drains battery while you play docked. That's retarded. In fact the Kotaku Review they said it drains down to 88% while docked.

Yeah that is one I never heard of before. Apparently it only happens during gaming session, but still that is stupid. I get that you don't want to overcharge the batteries for a longer life but 88% is ridiculous. They need to release a software update and make that more the 95% we expect out of mobile devices even if it takes a year off the battery life.

The 720p thing came up during the live demos they did, everyone talked about how the portable version of Zelda looks better (because 720p at 6 inches > 720p at 50+ inches). Also apparently the portable version plays better too. Nintendo's whole "dock to get more power" idea is falling flat on its face out the gate. I am half considering selling my dock early on when I can get a premium for it.

From IGN article...

I even had this problem playing from the Joy-Con Grip a mere 10 feet away from the Switch console, forcing me to scooch up further on my bed in order to maintain a reliable connection.

So basically it's not even usable in my current setup. How fucking stupid is that shit - 10 feet. Wow. And I don't think I can even find a pro controller at this point, nor do I know if I want to waste $70 on one.

Even though a lot of reviewers had that problem, some had no problems with the Joycons:

It's important to be mindful that there are some reports of the Joy-Con de-syncing when the system is docked, but I have never had this happen, even once, in my over 60 hours of testing. We've reached out to Nintendo for comment and although the company said it's "looking into it," we'll update you if we hear more

If it is a hardware issue that all Switches have (and it can't be fixed with a day-one firmware update or something) this is the biggest issue I can ever remember for a new console. The real question is if it is a universal issue or just a bad batch of controllers given to reviewers (wouldn't put it past Nintendo). Unfortunately we won't know until a lot of people have them.

The Switch is basically the world's first early access console.

Hm, I'm debating whether to cancel my pre-order of the Wii U version of Zelda to pick it up at Target during the B2G1 deal this Sunday. The only thing that has me hesitating is that Amazon doesn't even let you pre-order the game anymore. So, I don't want to cancel my pre-order and go to buy the game at Target only to find it isn't even available.

That's exactly right, all of us buying it are beta testers. The real launch isn't until the holiday season. If not for Zelda, most of us wouldn't be buying it. I'm super excited for Zelda.

Yeah, early reviews are not looking pretty.

I could see this a mile away. Nintendo always has to try to do something different and creative when in reality most gamers just want something they can zombie out to. Like, look at where the Kinect is now.

The Switch always looked dreadfully underpowered. You have to ask why couldn't they have just made a PSP? And a Wii HD? Just make some optional controllers too.

But this looks like what happens when you try to play your psp on your tv screen. Not good at all.

I have a feeling if it weren't for Zelda, they wouldn't be releasing the console in March. I think the game has been ready for a while and they just couldn't hold it back any longer.

They shipped my copy of Horizon Feb 26 and I got it Feb 28. I think mine came from Florida and shipped to Virginia. So I guess it depends on where you are and where it is coming from.

Me too. A new style of 3D Zelda I can take with me is worth being a beta tester. And frankly some of the exclusive indies (Snipperclips, Graceful Explosion Machine, Fast RMX, Blaster MasterZero) have really impressed me.

This is what they should have done:

Made a psp-like system.

At home it connects via a cable to the home base station which also has a hard drive, optical drive, and an extra graphics processor.

Then play it like the Wii U with the portable as tablet controller.

Simple as that. THe docking station in the switch is a dumb idea and all it does is overclock the handheld by supplying extra current.

You can get it in two days from Amazon. Heck, they've shipped things to me with next day delivery because they didn't ship it until the day before I was supposed to get it.

One thing I'm wondering is why they don't have any 4k support of any kind. The chipset obviously supports it since the Shield TV is the exact same hardware and does. Games don't have to be 4k obviously, that's not what I care about, but for streaming Netflix and other stuff to a TV it would have been perfect. You want to keep people using your one device. We know Nintendo wants to make money on every console sold so not a ton of memory built it or latest HDMI spec but it would have been nice to be able to keep using it to stream as well. Oh well, I'll keep using my PS4 Pro for that.
