I did preorder Metroid Dread on Amazon though. I don't know if I'll stick with it or not. I will say the footage of that game in the Treehouse Live was a lot better than what they showed on the trailer. It looked way more polished in the treehouse than the trailer. Maybe it was the feed they streamed or something during the Direct.

New 2D Metroid in October alone makes Nintendo's presentation the best of E3 by far

It’s not prime which is what I think most people really wanted to see so I don’t agree 100%. For some a 2D Metroid may be a step back and they are going to play Halo on Xbox instead or some other title.

I guess I fall into that camp a bit. I can totally see your point though so don’t misunderstand. I think on the whole it is one of the better titles shown in a sea of CG/cinematic trailers and blandness and I’ll probably buy it so I can have something to play.

Tried so many times to get into BOTW, I think 3 times and it didn't do much for me. I guess nothing like what I was used to and I'm coming from where I really enjoyed the N64 version of Zelda and Majora's mask, etc.

It had little direction. Some people like that but I didn’t. I like having a set path in the quest that you can veer off here or there and I also missed having actual dungeons where you acquire new items to use in your adventure. The puzzle areas of the game didn’t have the same feel.

Some other mechanics of the game like breaking weapons and finding a million weak and worthless sticks was quite bothersome too.

I think it comes down to how Super Metroid is a fairly beloved game from the SNES, and I believe all 2D Metroid games after Super Metroid were all handheld games. So, it's nice to have a console release instead of having to stare at such a small screen. That reminds me of when I tried to play Radiant Historia on the 3DS because I had heard so much praise for it, but I got tired of staring at the small screen. I ended up hacking my 3DS (far more time-consuming than the Vita), pulling my save file, and running it on the PC via emulator instead. I think I was also able to inject Japanese voices that way?

I never played the handheld titles so I have no basis for comparison there.

Is Citra pretty good these days? Really want to replay Shin Megami Tensei IV on a bigscreen and a decent sound system since I know it's never coming to Switch. God that soundtrack.

I'm not sure which emulator I used (this was maybe 2-3 years ago?), but I don't recall any issues playing Radiant Historia on it.

Speaking of emulators, there is one option that I'd like to see, which might be available as I haven't checked, is to make the DS screens side-by-side instead of top-bottom. In some games, you really want to keep the same layout, but in others, a side-by-side layout would better fit the typical 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio that we use with computers. If you're just going to toss a map or party member info on the second screen, I don't need that to be below me.

Hey that’s what I just bought on Friday with some Father’s Day money. Read basically if you like jrpg’s this is a good buy. Played all the other ones so dived in. Funny they made the option to play SNES 2D mode.

Yeah, I played through the demo already, so I'm pretty stoked to play the rest of the game!

DQXI is a blast. Be prepared to sink a fair number of hours into it since, just when you think it's over . . . it isn't.

Will play that next on PS5 once I finish TLOU Part II. Feels weird to be a big JPRG fan, especially stuff like Shin Megami Tensei, Persona, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy IV & VI, while having never played a game from this series that originated the JRPG. But bought XIS when it went on sale a month or two ago and am very eager to try it out. God the art looks amazing.

A little off topic, but I still remember renting and trying to beat DQ(W)5 on NES over a weekend. Could never do it, always got to chapter 5 but could never beat it in a weekend.

I always saved RPG for the summer so I could rent the game 2 or 3 times in a row (thank you Blockbuster 5-night rentals) and beat it. Don't remember if Blockbuster did the 5-night rentals in the NES era though, as my first console was SNES (unless you want to consider Ti99 4/A a console).

I think thats what I ended up doing, but it was a bear to try and get my dad to rent the same game back to back, it was at a local supermarket of all places as well.

DQXI is interesting. It's vintage Toriyama, but a huge step forward for DQVIII and DQIX (which in turn was a step back from DQVIII since they went mobile for that game). I think it kind of surprised a lot of people to see DQ go back to its roots after going mobile for IX and MMO for X. Too bad American audiences never got to see DQX.

Sure you don't mean DQIV? DQV was Super Famicom/SNES.

Oh you are right, it was 4. 3 was the one you could build any party/character you wanted and 4 was the one the first chapter you started with the healie that eventually turned into a person.

Used my rebate money from contacts to pre-order Metroid Dread, actually pretty pumped for it as I never played anything past SNES and LOVED that one.

Switch OLED model announced. Release is October 8th. No updated processor, just the screen and the dock now includes an ethernet port.

Wonder if you can save a few bucks just buying the tablet instead. Dock doesn't sound too different other than the ethernet port. With how great the original Switch IPS screen already looks this system must really look ridiculously awesome with a larger OLED.

Are we getting 4K via an updated scaler/HDMI port on the dock?

That was my bet all along. Updated GPU w/DLSS seemed like a pipe dream.

Getting an Ethernet port is a nice addition, IMO. I wire all the things if I can.

Link. Dock sounds fancier with the light and and the base storage has been juiced to 64GB.

To me it sounds like a no-brainer for anyone not considering the Lite version. For $50 it's a roundtable of midlife quality of life improvements and what is sure to be an amazing screen upgrade.

If I hadn't spent ~$70 or whatever on a second dock I might be more inclined to upgrade and sell my launch unit.

With no performance updates though, meh. I only play on TV, my kids will just have to make due since they play in handheld mode
