@Kaido

Maybe, how much more expensive would Switch 2 have been as a foldable?

And how badly would it break within a few months of use? Foldable phones have been one of those things that sound incredibly cool, but have failed to live up to the hype.

Don't underestimate Nintendo's cheapness. I mean it very likely uses Samsung 8 nm.

Nothing wrong with a mature process that's well established. Ampere used the same node and was a great architecture that would have theoretically had a great price were it not for the mining boom.

Building the Switch 2 SoC on TSMC 4N will not improve the games in any way. At best it would give better battery life, but probably not so much as to be worth the added cost to use the node.

Performance would definitely be better in portable mode.

Nintendo would keep the performance target the same and get longer battery life in exchange. But they would probably use a smaller battery in exchange to make up for the increased cost of the silicon. I guess that makes the product weight less, so portable mode is improved. It's still more expensive though so your wallet would be $50 lighter as well.

I am somewhat interested in the new Hot Shots golf, but if I get it I'll be getting it on PS5. There is a lot about it that I'm skeptical about though.

Foldable phones often cost over $1k . . . sometimes closer to $2k.

I suspect the current generation of foldables would not hold up to your average 6-year-old's daily usage LOL

Still...would have been awesome to have a BIG screen upgrade!

I never understood why people think foldable screen is viable.

I have several friends who have them...they are GREAT in person! Still early tech tho. There's even a triple-fold out now:

Rollable OLED screens are now mature enough for production: (rated for 20,000 rolls under warranty)

Would be fun to have a compact Switch with magnetic Joycons that could fold out to tablet size or roll out to double the screen real estate! Maybe in a few years for the Switch 3 haha

Curious to see magnetic pin durability over time:

Nintendo postpones Switch 2 preorders in US because of tariffs:

American gamers eager to place orders for the widely anticipated new Nintendo console will have to wait a bit longer. They have tariffs to blame.

Nintendo has announced that preorders for its new Switch 2 gaming console will not begin on April 9 in the US as previously planned while the company assesses “the potential impact of tariffs.”

“Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions,” Nintendo said in a statement. “Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.”

Nintendo announced the Switch 2 on Wednesday, just before President Donald Trump introduced a slew of tariffs on foreign goods, which heavily target Asia, where many tech supply chains are based — including Nintendo’s.

The Switch is the world’s third-bestselling console and Nintendo’s second-biggest seller.
