Not an ATI or nVidia fan (just wanted to be clear before continuing)

I find it interesting that nVidia fans are telling people to wait for months for something that most likely won't be much faster than an ATI card that's out right now. These are the same people who have been fixated on nVidia's framerate advantage ever since the first GeForce line and have been recommending those cards to people for years using the "why buy something slower" argument and the "maybe ATI will compete with their next product, but you shouldn't have to wait" argument.
The fact of the matter is that ATI has the fastest gaming card on the planet right now and they're going to release an even faster model at about the same time as the NV30 release; I don't see the point in waiting for months for a competing product that no one has actually seen in action yet (the thing just taped out a couple of weeks ago for god's sake).
What's good for the goose is good for the gander, so if you preach framerate then preach ATI (for the moment). Brand loyalty for vid cards is something I will never understand.

Errr...of course!

Anyways, the NV30 is NOT out right now...who knows when? At what price? Knowing NVidia it will be considerably more than the ATI 9700 debuted price wise...think about it, even the Ti4600's are not really that cheap at all, heck they didn't really even drop in price to make it worth not spending the extra $50-$75 US for the ATI 9700! Plus the ATI 9700 is up to 75% faster! Shows how hard NVidia is trying to compete, why are the Ti4600's still so expensive? I smell another Voodoo here...remember? The Voodoo cards were mega $$$ while NVidia was releasing the TNT2's that were almost as fast if not faster than the Voodoo cards. Here now ATI releases a card that is WAY faster than the Ti4600, then prices it just a bit above a Ti4600. What does NVidia do about it? Drops the prices a piddly $75 and expects you to buy...or what, wait for the NV30 whenever that comes out, and when it does, what will it cost? Why wait? ATI kicks ass NOW.

P.S. I'm sure NVidia won't be another Voodoo, since the specs of the NV30 will be enough to easily compete...but they had better drop them prices RIGHT now on the Ti4xxx line or they will regret that I'm sure...

nvidia hardly controls retail pricing on the cards featuring their chips. they only set pricing on the chips themselves. the ram is bought on commodity markets, and the 4600 actually uses slightly faster ram so its probably slightly more expensive. the board cost is going to be less than the 9700, but really nvidia is probably selling gf4 chips for about ~75 a pop, maybe a little less. and of that price they have to pay out the fab a certain amount, so they probably don't have all that much to give before they're not even covering variable costs on the part.

and the voodoo3 and tnt2 were both about ~150 back in summer '99 when i bought my v3. and i think it had a sizeable rebate on it.

After NV 30 then ATI will release a card that is better than that. Then Nvidia will release a card better than ATI's and so forth.....

End of september please! I think that even end of November is optimistic. These cards aren't even sampling!

You sure? My Friend's friend has an Engineer sample from nvidia. Let me see I can ask him to run some bench.

Jgtdragon are you very serious? Just want to make sure. Is there anyway possible you could get like a picture of it? Don't have to say specs inless you can.

Yeah sure. My friend's friend's brother is also sampling a 0.13u Radeon 9700 clocked at 400mhz. And my sisters' friend's friend is also sampling a faster Parhelia reportedly clocked at 375mhz and using RDRAM.......

Yeah but how do we know for sure? There is a chance it could be right and then theres a chance it could be not even true. I know. I am just saying there is a chance either way. What if its for real? I am just saying. Then what? Does that mean anything of when it will be out if its for real?

Like a kid on Christmas morning.... You're WAY too excited about the NV30. When it does arrive you're gonna' explode and leave a real mess for your parents to clean....

Well though that's all fine but who would buy a Ti4600 now, it's not worth it. Only thing NVidia has going for it is the Ti4200 which are relatively cheap and fast. Although the ATI 8500's are now just as fast with the new drivers. Price wise, I'm not up with the latter two cards. Just my point was...who would buy a Ti4600 for US $300 when the ATI 9700 can be had for $75 more? Nvidia may not control prices but this has got to affect them somehow...I remember when Voodoo started making their own branded cards, and they controlled pricing...but they didn't do it so wisely...if your Voodoo 3 was the same price and was just as good as a TNT2, why did Voodoo go belly up? My advice to NVidia is think about it, maybe ATI will be buying you up next...

No i really want a R350 or NV35 and R400 or NV40.

I bet ya if I have an NV30 right now and toss it off a cliff, you'll come diving after it....

Nope you would because you wouldn't care what happens. I rather use my currect video card more so i can get the fullest out of it like i did with my other video card.

I think he ment a very small cliff with enough water underneath and no rocks below water.

Hey, I just got a Radeon 8500-128MB last week - for $129 I couldn't hold out any longer. By the time games actually REQUIRE a faster card, the 9700 will be down in my price range.
