Nah. There is no dedicated light, the Prism turns on and shows what you see in the Glasses commercial.

You could easily have an App that records without turning the Prism on.

A visible light is more of a giveaway than a phone which shows nothing. And you have to speak out the voice command to record, which only does it for 10 seconds and after that you have to physically interact with the device.

I have not once seen anyone mention being able to record for more than a few seconds without a voice command, physical tap, or light shown. 007 recon recording not found. We've had stuff like button cams for a while now which are way more hidden and sinister.

Easily.

Make an app that while you're using your phone, you could easily make a gesture that remotely turns on the camera, and not activate the prism.

Using your phone is never suspicious.

Voila, spycam.

Pretty sure it said in the Verge article that a light turns on so you can see if the device is recording or not. Smartphones do not light up, and can easily be used to stealth record just about anything and the person could just look like they're looking at their phone.

Also that article is weird. Since when are you able to "instantly" know everything about a random person just because Glass can take photos and record video? Some paranoid nonsense in there.

I'm sure someone will figure out how to turn the light off (or tape it over). As for smartphone recording, it's annoying, and it's less hidden than a straight up DSLR but it's potentially far more obfuscated than a smartphone.

1) Someone standing behind you can see you're being a perv by looking at what you're doing on your screen (kind of a weird case of double privacy invasion). I don't know if you can determine what a user is doing on Glasses.
2) You would have to angle the smartphone up and that wouldn't look like how most people read their phones.

And I wouldn't underestimate the creepiness of the Internet. I'm sure some jerk will find a way to take a picture, feed it into some engine to search for Facebook and see what they get. The article gets a little extreme but I think the intent is of someone doing live data lookup is a possibility.

So then where are all the privacy/creep concern posts today? We already have easily affordable hidden button cams that are way more hidden than Glass ever will be. Hidden video recording is already being done before Glass even comes out, so why is there only a concern about Glass?

Yeah, not like the availability of small hidden cameras is anything new. As stated, wearing around Glass is a lot more obvious than an actual hidden camera.

Right now, it's such a novelty that wearing this around would be like waving a flag that you're probably recording something. Eventually when they're more common, then that too is a dead giveaway, the same way everyone knows what a camcorder is and knows someone can be taping when they see one aimed their way. I really don't see any big privacy issues that don't already exist.

Privacy should be a concern for everyone. You don't have to be at the tin foil hat level but for example, the basics of keeping your children's privacy safe should be there. So while privacy is a concern regarding Glass, Glass is not the only cause of privacy concern. Not sure why you jumped to the conclusion that no one cares about privacy until now.

I don't know if you remember the huge headlines of Badabing? It was definitely creepy and you can probably go ahead and blame the people posting the pictures in the first place. But it's just an example of how seeing things as "creepy" isn't new to Glasses. What about the privacy uproar of Facebook graph search? (or even just Facebook's existence? I think I get a mass spam update talking about Facebook privacy every other month)

Right now, it's such a novelty that wearing this around would be like waving a flag that you're probably recording something.

Yeah, same for my wife's case. I don't think I'm at the tin foil level but seeing someone wear that and start suddenly looking at you gives me the paranoid feeling that he's recording me right to my face. And that bugs me. (not sure why)

I can only see an inevitable future of establishments banning its use. I know some malls don't like people taking pictures of the insides (and mall cops really love to get on that). I can see Google Glasses getting banned as well.

So for me, the ability to record and take pictures is among the least interesting parts of it, and, while I can appreciate the concern, I don't share them especially. There are hidden cameras readily available. It's easy to record and take photos steathily with a cell phone. I walk past people all the time taking photos of things or videoing things. If I'm cruising down the sidewalk and some one is taking a photo of the street (and thus me as well), it doesn't creep me out at all. What makes this a bigger privacy concern than what we already have? If someone is using a helmet-cam on a ski resort, it makes no difference to me at all.

The ability to do things hands-free really appealed to me. I spend a lot of time cycling, running and driving and would love the get data real-time. For example, while running, if I get a text message on my phone, I have to stop, unvelcro my pocket, pull out the phone, unlock it (I have a passcode), go to the messaging app or notification center, read it and reply (or not) and then stick it back in my pocket and keep going. Cycling it's even worse, as I pull over, unclip my pedals, etc. You might say "just ignore messages" but I spend hours a week running and/or cycling (or driving) and totally ignoring the world (and my family) isn't really an option. Plus it would be great to get stats while running - right now I have them audibly come over my earbud - or cycling.
