Sounds like Evernote?
I've been using Any.DO, it works awesome for doing that stuff too.

I only hope Google will start to support their stuff long term. As Google Readers users can attest to.

Same. I also installed Evernote but never used it because it required separate account. This will be good addition to Google Drive.

I think most of their products they support long term so long as they're not failures:

- Buzz no one used after a while
- Wave was hype, but died in no time
- Reader is really the only one they dropped but that's not because it was a failure. Google just didn't want to in that service anymore as an aggregation site.

As for Keep, all I can say is this is Google's attempt to jump into the Evernote/OneNote territory. This is the other category of items for Google. Copycat apps. Kinda like Google+? They won't succeed in terms of being the best, but just wanted to join the fray. Who knows if it'll survive or not. I would be worried that this won't succeed and then get killed off like other services, but somehow I think it'll stay. The other similarity is Google Drive. Box, Dropbox are huge. Amongst Mac users, CloudApp is amazing. I don't see how Drive's really a leader except maybe for the document sharing/collaboration aspect.

Just because there are a boatload of similar apps this becomes a copycat app? Do any of those integrate with Google Now or Drive? Was apple maps a copycat app? And why does Drive need to be a leader? I use drive + dropbox and have needs for both.

This app is useless for me without a reminder alarm, but if they add that it'll replace my old reminder app no problem.

This.
I'm all for getting rid of apps with duplicate features requiring multiple accounts.

As long as it's as good as Evernote, I'll use it.
And the fact that this is connected to your entire Google account(on the web and on ANY mobile device) without requiring a separate account makes it a Keeper.

i like it. i used evernote a few weeks but if Google comes out with a Chrome/FF extension that lets you clip/save webpages or images, it's gonna be great.

+1. (no pun intended).

Got rid of Dropbox since Drive's features have perked up over the last few months.
Dropbox's initial size and expensive pricing options made it easier to drop dropbox. Pun intended.

Mulled over Amazon's Cloud Player vs. Google's Music for months and decided to go with Google in the effort to consolidate accounts. Even though most of my music is purchased through Amazon.

I have to say thank you but no thank you. I am increasingly weary of my personal data flowing through Google's nets, and decided not to use Google Drive. (Except one dummy account for petty stuff) Or any 3rd party cloud services except the ones with secure/private networks.

I will settle with a 3rd party note-taking app. It's kind of messed up, though, that Android doesn't have a native "Notepad."

Unnecessary paranoia.
Please, take off that tinfoil hat.

hah.

Mind your own business.

Edit: I wrote the above light-heartedly and reading it now it comes off quite rude. It wasn't my intention. (Although I am not quite sure what Nothinman was trying to say below)

I don't see anything rude about your statement.

I wanted to respond with a sacarstic remark as well, but he put it much better than I would have so I didn't bother to even try.
What Nothinman was trying to tell you was that once you upload anything to any cloud services, it's no longer only "your own" business.
It doesn't matter if that Cloud service is run by Microsoft, Google, Apple, Amazon, Dropbox, Evernote corporation, or whoever.

To assume that Google will do something but the others won't is stupid because they all have the same ToS. Read them.

It's like someone using Facebook and telling other people to mind their own business.
Once you post about "your own" business on the Internet, it's no longer just "your own" business.

I don't think Nothinman thought I was going to resort to something similar to Google service (but not Google), for I stated:

I am looking for either "Swiss-bank" style cloud service or thinking of building my own cloud that can serve multiple mobile devices (OS's). (Not sure whether the latter is within my capability, though)

No such thing exists unless you build your own server and also own your own ISP.
You will always be at the mercy of the cloud server owner and your ISP.

Even Swiss-bank were not effective because if you've been watching the IRS news lately those Swiss banks are cooperating with the investigation by releasing names of account holders because they don't want to lose their US bank holding license/charter or be charged billions.

Perhaps. But at least I can avoid having my everything at one corporation's mercy, in this case Google. That was the gist of my first post in this thread (#13)

It's not like I'm a criminal or something. But I sometimes get surprised at what Google is capable of, and it is not a pleasant experience when that happens, even if you have nothing to hide. Spreading my stuff into multiple, secure places (including my own space) may help alleviate some of my concern on personal privacy, even by a little.

That's my biggest issue with using cloud based services. You start to depend on it, then they either start charging for it, or they pull it out. I will admit I've been starting to use Google calendar with my Android, but it's a temporary solution as I plan to code my own calendar (can't seem to find any decent ones) and it will run off my home server. Then I will incorporate some kind of notification system, perhaps email based.

I don't know. They've axed other things that I wouldn't call failures, such as iGoogle, CalDAV for gmail, and Google Bookmarks List.

My guess is that they'll kill this eventually too, or try to fold it into Google+, which is about the same as killing it anyways.

I was already keeping notes in Google Docs/Drive anyways. LOL! Also trying Any.Do on my phone and syncing it with Tasks. Hope they merge Tasks with Keep.

Heard more features like seeing the notes in your Drive and a Chrome extension and so forth will be rolled out soon. So well see what all they offer.

I will give this a whirl. I was gonna check out Evernote and some other note apps. Still might.
