Out of curiosity, does anyone know what type of authentication mechanism Google and Yahoo employ? Many large companies use Microsoft's Active Directory, but I was wondering what these companies are using.
You're mixing terms. Google and Yahoo use LDAP for the objects/directory structure. The actual authentication can be any number of protocols and gateways.
