Commies come and go but the fascists are always with us. Unless the Reps succeed in literally killing off their base, the Reps will be with us a long. time.

I think WV will essentially cease to exist had the house bill gotten passed....

More rumbling that the House will pass the "skinny repeal" if the Senate does.

Seems like the worst of all worlds. The big taxes/regulations pretty much stay intact. No Medicaid cuts to pump up future tax cuts. Arguable by primary opponents that you didn't really repeal. Will implode the individual markets almost immediately and hike premiums.

I wondered if the house would go along with this, possibly just to throw something to T-Rump to sign. Not sure what the hope here is other than to say they did something, even if shitty, and then say "If the dems work with us, we can fix this mess". If this happens, I would suggest to the DEMS to go all in on single payer.

It will provide a GIGANTIC incentive for the lower-middle class to find some way to stay under the medicaid threshold. Basically once you make one dollar too much you'll go from free health insurance to completely unaffordable health insurance. If they actually pass that 'skinny repeal' into law they will be inflicting an enormous catastrophe on the country for no reason other than to say they passed something, as far as I can tell.

It's hard for me to believe enough of them don't know that it would be political suicide. Even people as craven and stupid as these are unlikely to cut their own throats for such a modest policy change in my opinion. I just can't see it happening.

The idea is that if they can pass something soon that will have enough time to get propaganda in place to blame the Democrats for it before the next election. The Republican base will believe anything if the Republican echo chamber is given enough time to convince them.

Cots at homeless shelters are free, too, and you can get one any time they're not full.

Just an FYI Cots at homeless shelters are not free. At least at my local one they charge $10 a night.

I can only assume they'd use the resulting rise in Medicaid expenditures as proof that it's a program that needs cutting.

Are you joking? I know that NYC charges 'rent' to those in shelters who have jobs, but if you can't afford it you can stay for free. I also have no idea how they establish if you have a job or not.

The Senate already rejected it, why would the House even bother? "Try try again?"

Not the skinny repeal. That's what McConjob is hoping to push through and then conference with the house to draft full legislation that both sides can agree on and pass. However, if the house just ups and passes the skinny bill too, oh shit.....

7 years to prepare for this moment, and they are writing it over lunch on same day as the vote?

In their defense, even our great leader, Trump, didn't know that healthcare could be this complicated. If he didn't know how could anyone have?

It just goes to show you that it's always easier to be the opposition than it is to actually lead. It's easy to be against someone's idea but it's really hard to come up with a better idea yourself. These Republicans have no clue what they are doing.

Trump made the Interior Secretary call up Alaska's senators and threaten the state's economy to threaten retribution for Murkowski's "no" vote on the Motion to Proceed.

https://www.adn.com/politics/2017/0...e-could-have-energy-repercussions-for-alaska/

This seems pretty rash given the following:

Murkowski isn't up until 2022.

She won as a write-in candidate in 2010 defeating her GOP rival, only one of two US senators to manage this ever. Handily beat her opponent in 2016. Not super vulnerable.

Chairs both the Senate Energy and Natural Resources committees. Committees Trump will need to pass shit that he wants.

Much harder to change her vote now without looking like she caved.

Trump doesn't plan. He barks.

Plan for what, doing something people DO NOT want them to do?
They rallied behind painting themselves into a corner. There is no way out for them but to face the music.

They will pass the skinny repeal then blame democrats for not working with them when the premiums skyrocket. Their base will eat it up. I have zero faith in the American public, too many idiots out their that vote against their interest. Oh well, screw it, I will get a big tax cut most likely. Woohoo.

Just repeal the parts that all the R's can agree with: the pesky taxes on the rich. Let the rest of it collapse under the weight of the unfunded subsidies and blame the democrats for crafting a bill so crappy that something as simple as years of sabotage by the Republicans can cause it to fail.

Even if the Senate passes it the house has already said it's dead on arrival.

Lol, Senators want a pinky swear from the House that they won't just pass the skinny repeal if the Senate passes it and instead go to conference.

Some Senators expressing great unease about this approach...

One of my college roommates was like that. Surprise, surprise he never got his degree-got totally discouraged when he started losing credits because they were more than seven years old.

I'm pretty sure he's not a Republican though.

On point, though, this skinny repeal sounds like the dumbest plan possible. GOP donors don't get what they want, insurance executives don't get what they want (lifting of salary caps) I presume, the marketplace will be devastated by currently healthy people opting out.

I better idea would be to just rename the ACA and maybe switch the order of the sections around. Then Trump can sign something and he'll be happy-for a few minutes.
