Got a Palit 8800GT

I got the stock-clocked version 600core/1500shaders/900 memory with the non-reference cooler and OCed it straight to 700/1730/950 with no problems so far. It idles at around 47C in a well-ventilated case and loads around 70-72C using the ATITool artifact tester with the fan at 45%. Any higher on the fan and it becomes too noticeable for my taste.

I think I've reached the limit of OCing at 730/1840/925. This is lower than what is stable but I just backed down a bit for my own peace of mind. It could do 750/1900/950 no problem (I didn't push the memory further.) Other thoughts are 10 posts down.

I like the Palit cards but don't hear too much about them. Hope they are able to stick around in the retail market long enough to build a rep for themselves.

Actually after my 640mb GTS I went to a 2600XT (lol don't ask...I'm keeping it as a backup), then to a 3870 (had to RMA it and just ended up getting a refund) and now to this. I'd only really be able to compare this to the 3870 (since I played most recent games with the 3870). Maybe Bioshock I could compare to the 640mb. With the 640mb I couldn't play bioshock at 1920x1200 maxed...I had to back down to get playable settings. I'll see if I can play maxed out with the GT. I only just installed it today and played around with it for about 1/2hour so haven't had much time with it. Will post more results on the weekend.

Actually I think Palit are fairly well established outside of North America under the Gainward and XPertvision brands if I'm not mistaken. I've heard they do their own PCB and cooling designs which is usually a plus.

Yes, Palit is Gainward.

But is it true that RMAs for this board have to go to Hong Kong? That's what the RMA address said on their site. That's really the only thing that makes me think twice about buying it.

Lol I hope not. Hopefully it dies within 30 days so I can just return it to the vendor.

Nothing wrong with HK, it just might take a couple extra days to get there than LA/NY.

The only thing I'm playing right now is CoD4 and this card is plenty fast to run the game at 1920x1200 and max settings with 2AA...definitely faster than my previous 3870 but not a huge difference. I could flash the BIOS to give 1.1v to the core but I don't think the gains would be worth it.

I really like the cooler but it is definitely louder than the 3870 and the card itself doesn't run as cool as the 3870. The card also fells somewhat flimsy (ie. the PCB looks very thin and flexes easily...maybe not many layers?) compared to the 3870 and even the 2600XT I have...but I'm guessing all 8800GTs are like this.

Yup, we're going to be in the US for a long time. For the US cards go to our centrally located facility in Indiana. I only cover the US region so I'm not sure what happens outside the US. Canada comes to the US for the next few weeks as we get our Canadian center up and running.

Yes, we prefer to produce our own designed boards whenever possible. Bigger heat sinks, quieter fans and three-phase power wherever possible.

I've had the best OC results pushing the shader clock as high as possible. That doesn't always produce the best 3DMarkXX score but I couldn't care less. I don't play 3DMarkXX.

Good to hear from someone at Palit. I was a bit hesitant since I've never really heard much about Palit here in Canada but I decided to give your 8800GT with the non-reference a shot and I'm very pleased so far. It keeps the card fairly cool and I'm only running at 45% fan speed. Overall, I'm very impressed. Hopefully you guys are here to stay...and remember, if you need anyone to "test" out your cards...I'm always available

Nice card, I remember a while back Palit intro'd a 8800GT I think it was with 3 phase Power reg to the GPU....they claimed this would provide a more stable current to the GPU and people speculated it 'could' improve over clocking- is your card the 3 phase one? I'd be tempted to flash to 1.1v just to see how much you'd gain but if you're happy with where your at then thats all that matters .

Yeah I think this is the 3-phase power card. Actually I was thinking of flashing to the 1.1v BIOS but out of curiosity I checked the voltage on the card and it was already 1.12v so no need to flash it. I saw someone on XTremesystems had actually done a pencil mod on the card and gotten it up to something like 800/2000/2100 with 1.34v and 907/2300/2250 at 1.47v. I'm satisfied with my OC saw I didn't do any mod.

Oh wow so stock was 1.12, that would mean the Palit 8800GT *should* be the best overclocking card out of the box compared to other manufacturers- good to know.

Palit cards are good clockers.. Mine went all the way up to around 700MHz with original cooler (voltmod). That's like 36% increase.
