officer said he clocked me at 78 in a 55.

What he clocked me at was probably accurate. I told him i figured i may had been doing up to 80, when he asked how fast i thought i was going.
fine is $135

is there any way to fight this in court? Is they only way that they would let me off easier would be if I pleaed as not guilty?

Like I cant just lie in court, that would be purgery and i could get in serious trouble for that.
so what are my options??

if i plead guilty, is there any way they could let me off with less of a fine?

pay it since you were speeding?

QFT

WTF were you doing going 78 in a 55?

the 55 happened to be a 3 lane highway hardly populated by any cars, it was 2am. I felt completely safe at that speed.
plus the speed limit was just about to change to 65.

you can plead not guilty and hope the cop don't show up to court. worst case scenario you can take traffic school.

No, just fight it. plead not guilt. You may get the points reduced, don't know about the fine part.

I haven't

you don't have a car tho do you?

plus you're 21.

So you've had your license for a short time and you don;t have a car...which makes this possible i guess. Anyone else i'd call a liar.

EDIT: Everyone else has sped at some stage in their lives, even if it's just slowing a bit late into a lower signed zone, or speeding up before a higher signed zone.

not committing perjury, but it's the officer's word against yours.

So... you were speeding... got ticketed for doing it... and you think it's justified to want to fight it?

Yep, happens everyime someone gets a ticket. Just admit guilt, pay it, and learn the lesson. Stop trying to justify breaking a clear and obvious rule of driving... that's really all there is to it.

pleading not guilty in itself is not committing perjury, but lying about the speed you were driving at the time you were clocked, is.

the rule is not quite so clear. it says in the law that the limits are only prima facie evidence for a violation. this means there is some wiggle room, in regards to conditions and things like that. it was late at night, not many cars were on the road.

so i guess the thing to do would be to plead not guilty and say that the cops speed clocking was accurate?
and then try to say that i felt the speed i was travelling at was safe?

What state you in?

If you are in California you should request a trial by written declaration.
