Yea, I'm just hoping they reimburse the shipping and maybe get the right monitor on better shipping. I ordered the monitor last Thursday night, and got it today. My other parts are here for the most part and I was excited to try my new screen out. From the looks of it I won't get the right monitor until next week now.

I would tell them the following:

1) You'll ship it back, on their shipping label (no cost to you out of pocket)
2) You're going to keep it until you have the correct monitor, since you don't have a monitor to use otherwise.

Don't put any more time or effort into this than absolutely necessary, in the end this is STILL their mistake. You have done absolutely nothing wrong, & you're under no obligation to front money for shipping.

Viper GTS

Unfortuantely they are closed, and I can't call today. I hope they do overnight it as I don't really want to wait another week for a new monitor.

I didn't order it from Dell, I ordered it from a small online company. While I wouldn't mind stealing from Dell, I'm most definately not going to rip off a small business that never did anything to me.

So uh, who'd you order from?

Maybe some of us would like to get this deal.

Just kidding, I am glad to see someone do the right thing for once.

Likely someone else has just discovered a 1905 where their 2405 should be.

My guess would be they'll try to convince you that you actually have the right item (since their order info will show the correct item).

I would give them a call, but if it's not easily resolved (first call) I wouldn't push the issue.

You owe them a call, but if they don't 1) realize the problem and 2) correct it you're under no obligation to continue trying.

I ordered a Dell monitor, a 1905FP to be exact. So, I got home, saw the package with Dell written all over, and quickly took it inside to open it.

Before I opened it I turned the TV on, and got distracted. So, I was opening the package while watching TV, and I take out the stand, which looked much different than the picture. I was confused, but didn't think anything of it. Then I removed some stryo-foam and got to the monitor. Only thing is its about 1.5x as big as I thought it would be. I look on the back of the monitor and its a 2405FPW. I look at the box and see in small print that the outside of the box says 2405FPW. Oh sh!t.

I quickly run to my computer to check and make sure my order didn't get messed up. Nope, the site has me billed $430 dollars for a Dell 1905FP. On their front page along with other items is the 2405FPW, touting a nice price tag of $998. Now I know I need to return the monitor, but the thing is I wasn't paying attention when I opened it. I opened cord bags and everything. They definately can't resell it as new. I feel bad now, I should have paid more attention.

Cliffs:
1. Order a Dell 1905FP form a third party vendor.
2. Recieve and excitedly open Dell package.
3. Find monitor is way too big, and was given a 2405FPW.
4. Site thinks it sent me a 1905FP.
5. Since I didn't pay attention to the model number on the outside I already ripped into the packaging.
6. When I return it they won't be able to sell it as new.
7. I feel bad now.

Freaking sweet. However, why were you going to pay $430 for the 1905? You can get those for WAY less.

Cross-ship ... if they screwed up, they should let you use it until the proper one arrives, and then send it back on their tab.

 for honesty ... I just ordered a 2005FPW, and although I'd love if the larger model showed, I'd have to do the same.

Sorry, I have morals, and the guilt would get to me. A couple bucks is one thing, but $500 dollars is a whole different ball park.

 for an honest man. Too bad we don't see guys of your caliber here more often.

Here, here :beer::thumbsup:

I'm a really uptight sort of person and normally would return the thing too, but given that it is Dell and given that they've decided to screw everyone by hocking the same goods at $200-300 more than they were a few months ago. I say KEEP IT! Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday all rolled into one! Worst they can do is bill you for the remainder, then you can just refuse and request what you ordered and an RMA or something for the one you have. Enjoy.

I was in a hurry when I was ordering, and last time I had checked (a couple weeks ago) Dell was more expensive than the results I got on pricewatch. I bought the monitor for $397 but the shipping came out to $26.91, so thats why its a little more expensive. The Dell site has it going for $380 before shipping, which isn't exactly WAY cheaper.

You really think they're going to let me keep something thats $500 more than what I paid? Even if they sell it as refurbished they could still sell it for $750 easily. I guess we'll see tomorrow, but I highly doubt they will let me keep it.

You really need to check out Hot Deals in the future. Just earlier this week, Dell had it going for $275 shipped with 2 coupon codes. They have deals like this quite often; just got to pick one up at the right time.

However, it really worked out in your favor though.

:Q Yes, it appears I will have to check out the hot deals section in the future... but do they have any 2405FPWs for $430?

Afraid not, you probably got that monitor for the best price ever. They have had deals for the 2005FPW for around $400 shipped though.

Glad you're being a good guy and returning it. You may get lucky and they'll tell you to just keep it, in which case you can feel good about yourself for doing the right thing. Whatever happens though, make SURE you don't end up paying any more than you otherwise would have. If they expect you to pay a dime for shipping it back and getting the right monitor, you keep it. The law is on your side, you're not obligated to return something that was sent to you in error.
