Plus, 730MHz XT is highly overclocked, while 550/1700 is a stock GTX512. Overclock that one, up to 625/1850 and as a nVidia man said, ATi is no competition for now. Perhaps when R580 will be out, if it will be out. My oppinion.
Suggestions?

Suggestion: Wait until you see the specs for real.

Check the other thread here or at nVNews dude- people are starting to buy 580/1730 512MB 7800GTXs and the flood gates are about to open.

There won't be anyone talking about the X1800XT any more, very, very soon. (no offense to the OP)

730X16= 11680
580X24= 13920 GTX wins fillrate by 19% on mega OCd XT!

865MHz GTX stock memory>>>>> 828MHz mega OCd XT memory.

Like I said, OCing, nice memory controller tweaks, whatever- the 512MB 7800GTX is going to be the card to get this year.

Although I certainly have to say those are huge OCs and you have a very nice card as well!

No offense taken!

If it really puts a hurting on the x1800 I'll return it and buy that one!

The overclock potential on my card BLOWS.

Its either that, or that overclocking program isn't the best yet..

650/800 is a instant artifact/crash.

I have the exact problem. Overclocking the memory above 1550 is instant crash-o-rama, hard freeze extreme. Im a bit perturbed. I know its above stock...but 50mhz max above stock?? Ick. Its not the O/C app either. The built in overdrive is dying above 750 mem clock. I think we need a new bios that ups the volts to the memory/memory controller.

I think it may be the overclocking tool.. But RC in this thread had no problems..

I will wait for ATItool, which is pretty reliable..

Do you get the same errors running overdrive? or just that generic o/c tool? I get the crashes using either at the same speeds. My core is cool tho up to ~690. I took a portable a/c unit just now and dropped the core temp to 67c under load to see what happens and the memory still hard locks my rig at anything above 1550mhz memory.

I did not use the overdrive Tab yet.. I can give that a shot though..

How are you 3dmark 05 scores looking ( as pointless as they may be )

I just broke 9K BARELY.

All I know is that BF2 @ 1680x1050 maxed + 6xAA is looking PRETTY good...

XT or XL? Hard locks are usually the core and mem is artifacts. My xl stopped at 600 mem unless I increased the gpu core voltage. XL is rated to 700 mem and xt is 800, but you may have to increase the core voltage to get there, and even then who knows. (my XL would not go over 621mem no matter what I tried)

580 Core!? 580!? Wow! That's much higher than I thought they would actually get! Kudos to NV for milking such amazing clocks out of their card.

One thing which is interesting is that there is a throttle speed listed as well: 500/1730 (80MHz drop on the core, no drop on the memory). Hopefully these cards don't have to throttle much/at all if your case has good cooling, and is just a safeguard against the worst possible scenario.

I have 450 core speed and 415 throttle speed. It never got throttled though, not even after several hours of playing BF2 with all details maxed out at 1280x960 (my native res).
I can hear the cooler spinning when I boot the PC, then it calms down and stays there. The cooler doesn't spin at max, not even when I play. So I guess the temperature is good with these NV chips.

Edit: Max temp of my core, 71C

That's Samsung 1.1ns memory that should reach 1800MHz. With some timing tweaks, 1900MHz.

And why, pray tell, are you posting this info in this thread, which is about the X1800XT?

I have the x1800xt. In 3dmark 05 i got 9128 running at 690 core. At stock i was at 8998. Not as great as I had hoped for. I was hoping i could go a bit higher with the oc to change that but no luck so far.

Ok you guys having trouble oc'ing the XT, I thought with this new oc tool you could raise the voltages? Have you tried raising voltage for core, memory, or both?

I bumped it slightly, but I am hitting artifacts almost instantly.. It would seem most of these cards for have a for sure 100mhz (even on stock )

I want the Cat 5.11's to come out, along with the H.264 decoder that was promised!

I am not an ATI Fanboy. (You see I have a ton of Nvidia cards in the past few upgrades.)
However, I really really hope that ATI would put out something faster in good volume and take the lead (build up solid reputation again) for at least while,
if ATI went down, then we might ended up with $1000 dollar crappy cards from Nvidia since there is no longer a competitor.

ATI isn't going anywhere.. I hope nVidia's new card smokes the x1800xt so I can swap to that!

The competition is good.. And Ati still has a decent market share, along with the not TOO shabby xbox360.

Well I am running it now!

BF2@1680x1050 6xAA / 16AF looks PRETTY damn good!

I want the Cat 5.11's to come out, along with H.264 decoder just to see the difference in CPU load!

I wish Matrox, 3DFX and others were still around. Makes competition more interesting.

Voodoo7 8000 anyone?

Meh, I don't think so. Jasonja practically invited any and all conflict into this thread by ingeniously posting this:

Quote from Jasonja: "What's this? Real people have the X1800XT? Real people are overclocking them and getting good results? Where are all the nVidiots that claimed this card would never come out and that only cherry picked review samples would be able to overclock?"

And don't forget CrazyDingo's wit filled follow-up: "They dont have the gut to admit their mistakes."

So, you can thank them for any thread crapping you all receive.
BTW!! Congrats on your XT OP. Very nice!!! U2 rcabor!!

Keys talking about X1800XT OCing results being very good has nothing to do with the 512MB GTX, so M0RPH's point still stands Rollo (although he didn't start it) was at the very least OT and probably thread crapping. Jasonja's point was said nothing about the 512MB GTX and so I don't see how that invites people to bring up the 512MB GTX on this thread.

They're already out: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=31&threadid=1732582

Too bad you still can't break 10k in 3dmark05 with the X1800XT. It would be much easier with the 7800GTX 512MB

Actually racabor did, with stock cooling and voltage

thats what i thought...
