Unless the 7800GTX 512 smokes it, I will still the with x1800xt..

First, let me congratulate you on your purchase. It's indeed a good card. Got my 7800GTX as soon as it came out, so we're both early with our purchases.
All the tests out there show the 256MB 7800GTX on par with the 512MB X1800XT until 4AA/16AF is activated and at high res, where XT has the lead. That's because of the memory bottleneck.
So, as to raw power, I believe the 24 pipelines 7800GTX is the monster. I also believe the 512MB GTX version will clearly win this one, especially since it's a rumor that's gonna be clocked at 550/1800 using Samsung 1.26ns memory chips.

I guess we'll have to wait and see. High res with AA/AF enabled is really where these cards shine so that's probably where they should be compared.
I think you meant 1.1ns Samsung chips. Good 1.26ns chips are capable of running at 1800MHz, but I doubt the manufacturers would run them on the ragged edge like that

550/1700 they say. Sounds preety official too. Others say this will be a limited edition chip, everybody agrees this will blow x1800xt away?

I'd like to see if it can blow away a 730mhz XT. LOL.

If a 430/1200 GTX is on par with the 625/1500 XT (90% of the benchmarks are on reference GTX designs, allthough, even my GTX runs 450/1250 with an official BIOS from Leadtek), I am preety damn confident a 550/1700 GTX will wipe the floor with a 730MHz XT. Plus, 730MHz XT is highly overclocked, while 550/1700 is a stock GTX512. Overclock that one, up to 625/1850 and as a nVidia man said, ATi is no competition for now. Perhaps when R580 will be out, if it will be out. My oppinion.

Hmm. I don't really agree with you about the stock clocked GTX keeping up with the X1800XT. Almost all the reviews I've seen concluded that the X1800XT is the faster card.
3DMark05 isn't as good as real world gaming but it does reflect a card's relative performance with respect to games and when the stock 7800GTX scores ~7700 and the stock X1800XT scores ~9100, I wouldn't say that they are on par.
I'm really curious how Nvidia's 512MB beast turns out. I just can't see a refresh being so much faster than it's big brother, like some peope are saying. It will undoubtably be fast but I don't think it will cause games to come up with an error message saying "maximum allowed fps have been exceeded" or cause your monitor to do the lightspeed blur effect whenever you start up your rig.

7800GTX's clocked at 490/1300 get easily up to 10000 on a high end computer (FX processor).
I am preety much held back by the processor, I am sure that if I overclock this processor to 2400MHz, I could break the 9000 barrier.
GTX and XT are on par to me. I saw many reviews from different sites and there are 2 kinds of sites. Those that show the truth and the cards are on par, GTX wins some, XT wins some, and there are some others that love ATI and show me that FEAR test over and over and explain how XT is the better choice for FEAR.
The point is that XT WAS better in FEAR Demo. In the final retail version, both GTX and the XT have the same FPS.

The point is, XT is better now, because of the 512MB that helps when all the eye candy is turned on.
I'd like to know whether you believe the 512MB GTX will get better fps than XT.

I havent tried it with the XT yet, but it worked with the xl, so i am betting that it will.

Rest assured that the 512mb alone is not enough to give the XT a big lead in games that it wins. In fact, it spanks the GTX in shader-heavy DX9 games like Farcry, BF2, Chaos Theory.
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/radeon-x1800.html
Oh, an as of about 3 weeks ago, it also now spanks the gtx in Doom3/Quake4.
http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=3668
You cant attribute those wins to memory alone, and I'm sure than when you put a 550mhz 512mb gtx vs. a 730mhz XT, the gtx will still lose the same benches that the 256mb model loses.
