I sent my Inspirion 8000 in for a display problem... they fixed that... well, now the system won't even turn on.

All that happens is the power LED flashes a single time when you press the power.

Any ideas what it could be?

I had a latitude c600 do that to me. Amazingly the screws on the bottom of the case came loose and soemthing wasn't making a connection inside. Nobody had ever touched it. Really weird.

How do you know they fixed the display if it won't power up?

I doubt it's relevant here, but the last time I had that problem, the PSU voltage selector was set to 220 instead of 110.

I've never had a problem with Dell support. They've always been excellent. The Dimension P2-400 I have in my spare bedroom has had the following problems, ALL fixed promptly by Dell:

1. Motherboard fried in a lightning storm (I was stupid and forgot to unplug all my stuff). I called Dell and two days later a technician was at my door to replace the board. That's pretty fast. I've had various A/V gear sent in for warranty repair before and some of it had taken up to 3 months to come back fixed!

2. Somehow I went through two sets of Altec Lansing 3-piece speaker systems. On the first one, the stupid DIN connector on the sub wouldn't allow for a snug fit so the speakers would work properly. The second system's speakers blew playing at NORMAL volumes. Both sets were replaced within a week and I didn't have to pay shipping. They just sent me new speakers with a prepaid airbill.

I build all of my machines now, but if I ever get into the market for a laptop (which will probably be soon), I'll definitely buy a Dell. They've been very good to me.

heh I think it can be hit and miss with dell at times. I call and complain that they sent you back a nonfunctioning laptop. You paid for support might has well use it.

Hmmmm... a very good point.

I sent this laptop in because I had some downtime... and I tried to get them to send a tech out to repair it since I really need it now. they flat out refused saying I didn't have that waranty. I pressed them telling them that it was their fault and not mine because the unit was working when i sent it to them... but again... denied.

I'm planning on sending a complaint letter to corporate... not that it'll do anything now.

I hope I get the damn thing back tomorrow.

Well...that's funny...

The couple of times I've seen that on a Dell laptop is usually when the display connectors from the laptop to the LCD needs to be reseated.

They may have well fixed the display and the connectors just become a little jostled* afterwardsor when they were closing it up.

*Only recall one case where even though the guy never was rough with it or even take it anywhere with him, it happened. So I guess it could happen to yours somehow
