A little "dive" diner in Birmingham, MI. Smallish burgers but so freaking good.

My favorite burger is from Ted's Montana Grill. It's a chain, so there's a good chance you can go try one there for yourself as well. There's something about the texture, but it's the best damn burger I've ever had from anywhere -- dives, restaurants, and everything in between. They use very good bread, which never hurts.

Close runner-up is Ray's Hell Burger. That's in Arlington, VA. The dogcatcher - an "au poivre" style burger (peppercorn crusted) topped with roasted bone marrow. Ridiculously good. They also have one topped with a slice of foie gras and epoisses cheese. Haven't tried that one yet, but it's basically 3 layers of fatty goodness, what could be bad?

Fuddruckers is definitely good. I'm thinking it'll be a slight bit better than the McD's, but my friend told me yesterday that it's decent.

Five Guys, although I usually only eat burgers when I am going to a fast food place.

I like the burgers I fry up or grill myself. I buy the patties from the local meat market. Add a little onion and pickles. Excellent.

Blueberry Hill in St. Louis. Crumbled Blue Cheese on it, onions, bit of deli mustard, not sure of the bun type, but yum.

Might have to go get one this coming weekend.

Best burgers in the US are in Texas.

Angry Dog, Twisted Root, and The Grape.

Believe it or not it was some homemade, home ground buffalo burgers on a weber charcoal grill. I've yet to have a burger at a restaurant that tastes better then ones we make at home. Then again that goes for most food.

Local steakhouse, freddies. I'd guess nearly a 1/2 pound patty with locally grown fixins on a perfectly toasted bun. Mmmmm

It is very sad that the best burger you have ever had came out of a chain store.

Mine. If your own burgers can't blow away anything from a restaurant you need cooking lessons.

Pretty much. Why do burger places try to say "It's just as good as what you make at home!"

No, it's not and it never will be.

80/20 beef, 1/2 pound patties, 4 minutes per side (perfect medium), add cheese, done.

You've obviously never had a Father's Office burger.

PS I have never had a home made burger that tastes better than a Whopper.

The $14 Kobe Burger at Max Burger in West Hartford, Connecticut. Got one on my birthday this year. Amazingly delicious. It's like the Filet Mignon of burgers. I salivate just thinking about it

Followed closely by my own burger, the M&M burger (Melt-in-your-Mouth burger), which is a charcoal-grilled ground Bison (Buffalo) burger on a whole-wheat kaiser bun, seasoned with McCormick Hamburger spice, Garlic Salt, Dried Minced Onion, Season-all Seasoning Salt, and Black Pepper. I make it weekly

Same for me. I like my own because I take the time to do it right. All the chains or diners just slap them together. Has to have that flavor you get from the grill.

how's not having taste buds working out for you?

My favorite burger was at home, easily.

Next was... maybe Farmer Boys local chain place in Southern Cal...

I'm pretty sure my taste buds are 100x more refined than yours.

It has a lot to do with the recipe and your cooking skills too - I didn't like homemade burgers until I learned how to grill a few years ago (thanks to iamwiz), I prefered a Whopper any day. I still like Whoppers, but it's a different kind of burger than what I make at home, just like Wendy's has a different kind of burger. Just depends on what you're in the mood for. I went for 20+ years not really liking anything other than Whoppers and stuff because I just didn't know how to cook a delicious burger at home, so it's not necessarily his taste buds that are off
