The Wendy's Baconator. I have one of those at least once per week. I actually crave it all the time. I don't know why, it's something they put in there other then the bacon that makes it taste SO good.

I agree. I usually do the double-patty with bacon, and I love their fries. Something about the bun/sauce/meat just makes it an addictive combo

I've always wanted to taste an original McDonald's burger, like just a regular cheeseburger, as it was prepared in what, 1959? It probably was a lot closer to a burger that you'd make at home today, than the processed extruded meat product that it is today. (That being said, I still have a soft spot in my gut for mcdonald's double cheeseburgers).

But I'm happy with the burgers I grill at home. Add fresh lettuce, tomato, onion, ketchup, mustard, wheat bun, and it's almost healthy.

While camping with a couple friends

Threw a couple patties + American cheese from the supermarket on top of a grill powered by a wooden fire, and also cooked bacon strips in a pan... holy shit, that was the best burger I had ever had. It just really sucked that the flies also wanted a piece.

Mine. If your own burgers can't blow away anything from a restaurant you need cooking lessons.

Pretty much. Why do burger places try to say "It's just as good as what you make at home!"

No, it's not and it never will be.

80/20 beef, 1/2 pound patties, 4 minutes per side, add cheese, done.

You've obviously never had a Father's Office burger.

PS I have never had a home made burger that tastes better than a Whopper.

how's not having taste buds working out for you?

My favorite burger was at home, easily.

Next was... maybe Farmer Boys local chain place in Southern Cal...

I'm pretty sure my taste buds are 100x more refined than yours.

It has a lot to do with the recipe and your cooking skills too - I didn't like homemade burgers until I learned how to grill a few years ago (thanks to iamwiz), I prefered a Whopper any day. I still like Whoppers, but it's a different kind of burger than what I make at home, just like Wendy's has a different kind of burger. Just depends on what you're in the mood for. I went for 20+ years not really liking anything other than Whoppers and stuff because I just didn't know how to cook a delicious burger at home, so it's not necessarily his taste buds that are off

Well my point was more that it's hard to replicate restaurant burgers because of the equipment. Most people have gas grills at home.

Pretty much this. The burgers I've had at cookouts or backyard BBQ's have been the best.

Whistle Stop Cafe, Winslow Arizona.

It was August, I was very hot from driving without A/C and very hungry. We stopped there on the way back to PA from Las Vegas. Best damn burger and lemonade I ever had... but I imagine my hunger was twisting my taste buds.

Johnny's burger. homemade 1/2 lbs, 1 cup fresh mushroom, fresh lettuce & tomatos, 1/2 slice pickles, cheddar, and a plate full of homemade fresh fries.

The Canadian government shut the locally own 6 year old restaurant down, because the owner refused to collect or pay what he deemed to be the illegal GST tax (Good & Services Tax). It is sad that in 1992 the Canadian government/thiefs destroyed the contitution and ordered the restaurant owner to pay $180,000 in back tax that he never collected.

in reality, he was required to charge the tax, so all they did was offset the tax from what he charged. his fault, not theirs.

now I want a burger.

If a fast food burger beats out your home made, you need to stop buying your meat from the clearance aisle at Aldi.

Plaid Rhino, unfortunately it is a local establishment far far away from where I am living now

The owner was there most of the time, even handled some of my takeout orders, good people running it.

As far as chains go, Five Guys is OK... for a fast food joint. Probably the best fast food burger around, IMO. They need to work on their fries. Even their Cajun fries are bland or maybe I grew up too close to New Orleans and have too high spice standards.

Dude, 5 Guys fries are the best thing about that place. Cooked in peanut oil, and overflowing into the bag so that the grease seeps through and you can almost see through the bag...mmmmmmm, bag fries.

Yah, definitely. Growing up, my friends all had gas grills, and I never really cared for the taste. Once I got started on charcoal, oh man, it was all downhill from there

Kuma's Corner in Chicago.
http://kumascorner.com/html/about.html

If you've never had one it's quite possible you've never enjoyed a hamburger in such a way before. It goes beyond the burger itself. The joint is small as fuck, has some great rules to go along with it and is a heavy metal bar to boot. Where else can you enjoy such gourmet burger choices while drinking whiskey from a glass (pretty much required) and listening to metal records? Nowhere else I say.

If any of you come to Chicago for business or whatever else in the future, PM me and I'll take you there.
