There is nothing elitist about taking beef and throwing it on your grill for probably the best burger that can be had.

Elitist is saying the only good burger is dry aged beef from the woo-tang clan and only from the left side of the round because the only walk to the left topped with cheese from the remaining dutch amish in wisconsin with french decendants that has been aged and started with the only remaining mother culture dated at over 1500 years old all on bread made by italian immigrants in a wood fire oven topped of course by only organic vegtables.

THAT's elitist. Buying ground beef and cooking it on your grill is not.

The Counter, Fathers Office? you mean that place where you can't even tell them how you want the burger? a 2/3rd pounder (weight after cooking) with Garlic Aoeli sauce from The Counter kills the rest. Hell Apple Pan is better than Fathers Office and they're not even on my top 5. Both are good, but both are vastly overrated, Counter has awesome burgers and more topping choices than probably every other burger place in LA combined. They also have better buns, and it's not going to cost you $30 bucks to get a burger, fries and 2 drinks like at F.O's. It's a land slide. If a burger better than The Counters exists, I will drive to another state to get it, because in California such a place does not exist.

Time to look up this "The Counter"... I tried FO's burger and it was ok but not worth the price.

Hell, I'm not even convinced that dry aged beef is anything more than a waste of otherwise good meat when put into a burger. It's mostly a gimmick. It's just going to be topped with overpowering flavors. Dry aged beef is for when you want to eat beef and taste it.

Don't even get me started on putting kobe/wagyu beef into a burger.

I do hand it to the restaurants that manage to sell these kinds of burgers, though. They manage to sell scraps/trimmings that would otherwise go into the bin, all at a markup. Good way to get rid of leftovers.

Not beef, but I had a really nice chicken burger in bumfuckville years ago. Somewhere in California.

I've forgotten everything about the place except for that burger. Fuck it was nice. An orgasm between buns.

Because The Counter has a far superior burger. F.O is very popular and most of the people I know rave about it. That's a bad sign right there, because most people I know rave about PF Changs. There's nothing wrong with PF's but like FO it doesn't deserve the retard praise it gets. The Counter also has way better fries.

MOS Burger. If we're sticking to beef only, then the Spicy MOS Burger. If we're talking about anything on a bun, then the Teriyaki Chicken Burger.

Mine. If your own burgers can't blow away anything from a restaurant you need cooking lessons.

Pretty much. Why do burger places try to say "It's just as good as what you make at home!"

No, it's not and it never will be.

80/20 beef, 1/2 pound patties, 4 minutes per side (perfect medium), add cheese, done.

I marinate the beef patties in Worcestershire sauce, garlic salt, and pepper for about 15-30 minutes before cooking. A little mesquite smoke on the grill can add a nice flavor as well.

It is possible to get better burgers at a restaurant than one can make at home, it's just not going to be at any chain restaurant. The best burger I ever had was at the rustic and tiny Laughing Horse Lodge in middle-of-nowhere Swan Lake, MT. Simply amazing.

And they're not very good either. They compensate for taste with volume.

I don't get the 5 Guys hype. They must be doing something right because there is always a line out the door, but IMO their food is mediocre and greasy.

Never said it was a lost cause. Altering their seasoning formula to include high(er) levels of Cayenne pepper, black pepper and spiced salt would do wonders.

My local 5 Guys must be much worse compared to the rest of the country, cuz I think they suck.
I'd rather have fast food.

Really? My favorite beef burger ever is a Kobe burger at a local restaurant - to me, it has all the flavor that American beef should have without the flavorings. Like, when I think of a burger in my mind, that flavor is what comes to mind as "mmm, burger"

Fixed that for you. If anyone recommends Five Guys as an example of a good burger I instantly dismiss all further opinions they have on food. Five guys is barely half a step above McDonalds, nothing more.

I had a really good burger the other day at Plan B - I normally don't like any of their burgers (no flavor), but my wife loves to go there, so I go sometimes - but this time I got the "Squealer" burger, which is 1/2 pork 1/2 beef, topped with bacon. Wowowowow did it have flavor! :Q It was really tasty! They also have the best tater-tots on the planet, and pretty decent steak fries, so it went together nicely

As platypus said, Kuma's Corner has hands down the best burgers I've ever had. I've also had a burger from the Heart Attack Grill, the experience was underwhelming. Overpriced sub par burgers served by strippers on their day jobs.
