Check out this web site which Uses your wrist width to determing your ideal greek porportions

I am a 5'8'' guy about 145 lbs. I consider my self to be in really good shape, I can run over 10 miles bench like 185.

Wrist Size: 6.0 (my actual wrist size)

(these are the greek ideals based on a 6'' wrist)
Chest Size: 39.0
Forearm Size:11.3
Waist Size:27.3
Thigh Size:20.7
Hip Size:33.2
Calf Size:13.3

Important: these results are just to give you a clue of what was considered to be an ideal body. Every body type is different and is in now way considered to be accurate.

Why the hell would you be trying to measure yourself against arbitrary standards developed by random Greek folks thousands of years ago? Are you also into phrenology?

Aesthetics. Optional, of course, but that's why.

Lol because I am that superficial of course

My main question is how to get my waist that small. I need to get my chest to be about 2 inches larger.

I guess my plan bulk to get my chest to 39-40 inches then cut to get the waist? Sound like it would work?

I'm pretty much there already, i'm 6'1 and around 220 lbs..

Although the ideal waist measurement seems a bit unrealistic, i'd look really strange with that waist size, i can only just achieve it if i really breathe in!

I can understand wanting to look good, but my point was why go for these supposed "Greek proportions"? They aren't going to work for every body type, they aren't necessarily the most aesthetically pleasing and they don't guarantee any progress towards actually being healthy. In other words, it seems rather foolish to me to set a goal of making some body part a certain arbitrary size, especially as you could end up looking ridiculous as a result. I mean, if your chest or legs were bigger than recommended because of muscle or just genetics, would you purposely let that muscle atrophy?

If you're interested in looking good, I'd instead recommend:

1. Focus instead on a healthy strength training & cardio routine that increases muscle mass through out your whole body.
2. Watch your diet and cut away the fat.

Do these two, and your body will pick the proper proportions for you, far better than any silly website ever could.

The Greek proportions are not just from some silly web site. The great artists and sculptors of the time used these proportions to model their works. The proportions were developed by Greek sculptors Lysippos and Polykleitos to create ultra real statues. These proportions were admired and influenced artists for hundreds of years.

I'm well aware of where Greek proportions come from, but I think you're missing the point in what I'm saying. These were measurements developed by artists for sculpture and not by exercise/biology/physiology experts for an actual human. Why is that an important distinction?

Well, for one thing, artists have the wonderful luxury of being able to change every single facet of their sculptures, where as you cannot say the same about your body. For example, your bone structure is relatively fixed for your adult life. Therefore, it may simply be impossible for you to attain these Greek proportions or you may end up looking ridiculous if you did. Entering the size of your wrist on a website alone may be not enough information to calculate "pleasing" proportions for every body type. What if you have a particularly large head? What if your rib cage is really small? What if you have wide hips?

Another issue is simply the question of whether these Greek proportions really are the most pleasing. This is obviously completely subjective and it's quite possible that they would, in fact, look good on you. On the other hand, tastes change all the time and what the Greeks found appealing thousands of years ago may not match up with today's preferences. Our taste in the "ideal" proportions for a woman's body, for example, has changed drastically in the last half century (largely due to TV) to prefer skinnier women with (disproportionally?) large breasts. Perhaps the taste in male bodies has changed too and if you want to make yourself as physically appealing as possible, it's possible the Greek proportions are not the ideal ones to shoot for.

Therefore, I once again say that the smartest routine is to make yourself healthy - get your body fat percentage and lean body mass to good values - and let your body take care of the proper proportions for you. I would wager that this would be far healthier and in the end, far more physically appealing, than attempting to measure up to these Greek proportions.

My wrist size is 7". That would put me at a 45.5" chest on my 5'9" frame. That seems like a lot to me. Is the chest measurement the same as your suit size?
