Thought I'd pop in for my semi-annual visit. :Q

I was just perusing the RC5-64 stats... I thought that thing was dead???
Did I see somewhere that the key was found, or am I hallucinating?

Anyway...

Hope you're all well, happy, and EMPLOYED.

Ack, he's alive...

RC5-64 is done. But they started 72 about a month afterwards??? Not too many people have restarted but most are joining other projects and it's a little more diversified.

Oh, and the employed thing... HA. I swear we are all droping like flies..

Wow, welcome back DanC! :Q

Yep, RC5-64 ended, and RC5-72 is going, but with all the other projects out there hardly anyone around here runs D.Net anymore.

Where's Russ these days? If you see him, tell him I said thanks for running his SetiQ - it's one of the most reliable around.

Hey -

We've all been through too much together to forget you. A fine group of men you are. (And Ladies - lest I be politically incorrect)

Yes, it's been an interesting year.
Employment would be nice. My entire division was axed 12 months ago.

So - there you have it. I'm as unemployed as everyone else that's unemployed.

Sucks doesn't it? The thing that drives me insane is that people haven't gotten any less stupid about systems or software. They somehow magically are able to "cope" with it somehow.

This too - will come to pass. There's a groundswell of "need" brewing. Morons are still morons... and folks that fix problems and architect solutions will be in vogue again one day. Just "Ain't today."

Hey Dan!

Nice to see you again!

You gonna make these visits more regular? After all, you are unemployed, so it's not like there's a job that's taking all your time I would know...i'm in the same position!

Dasm... It's like a family reunion!

Yes Mate, you DO need to write. It's been a long time. You been 'bush?'

Hi one and all. Great to see you!

It occurs to me we have enough collective talent to start a heck of an I.T. company.

It's baffling that the demand could have just vanished. I think the thing that's hardest is trying to keep from blaming oneself. It definitely doesn't do anything for a person's self-esteem.

I've gone to dropping my 'asking price' $10,000 at a time. I guess eventually I'll work for free. Already at half what I used to make, 178 applications, 3 interviews, 0 offers. One doesn't count though... I got desperate at applied as an automotive service mgr. The owner kinda raised his eyebrows a bit at my resume'. "What's a PMP?" That was a clue that I was barking up the wrong tree.

Actually considering standing at the end of an offramp in my business suit with a sign that reads

I.T. Professional
Will work for a wage

Hi DanC

Sooner or latter those companies that have shed IT jobs will grind to a halt when all their rigs get corrupted & need re-installing

Heya DanC

Every job interview I've been on has had at least 6 people interviewing for the same little position.

One guy told me he had 200 resumes after two days of posting the job on Monster. They narrowed it down to 50 for phone interviews, and then 12 in-person interviews. I made it to the in-person, but didn't get an offer lol

Oh well, keep your head up and you'll eventually find something

Hello. Glad to see you around, even though I really don't know who you are. You must be one of those famous people from long ago that I hear about in the legends.

It's kind of sad that I've only been doing RC5-72 for a short time, and I'm already 81st overall in the TeAm, with only a 766MHz Celeron crunching for me. At this rate, RC5-72 will be done in a mere 30 years or so.

jliechty, You may want to buy a new calculator. The last time I ran the numbers -vs- the current key rate we were looking at 2,003 years to exhaust the key supply.

DanC, Long time no see! And, I will not be assimilated any time soon. Good luck with the job hunt. If you'd consider moving as far north as Montana or Washington, there might be an IT job with NC Machinery or Tractor & Equipment Co. with your name on it. Just make sure you let me have a way around the firewall if you get the job.

Crap, I guess so. The problem was that I was going from some number that I saw somebody else around here estimate a long time ago. When calculated from the stats page, I get something on the order of 2003.6741957563312799452429842574 years at the current rate if the project runs to completion.

ßGød, I live in Washington!

Tell me - do you have an "in" with these folks? Anyone who might know anyone who... (you get the idea)
It's getting depressing, and a little bit scary. I'll check out the companies. Thanks so much for the tip!

oh - and great to see you too!
