I don't see what the issue is with off topic lines unless it gets completely derailed. Which case it has not, most of us are still waiting to play the game.

I am having trouble reading the neutral and user reviews for GTA V on metacritic. The few I've been able to read are not rather helpful due to the reviewers low intelligence. One person complains this is not a kids game (or a game at all!). They then state there is too much 'goore' and that torture should not be a gameplay mechanic. I feel they must be new to the GTA franchise.

One of the neutral ones claimed how much more it had and how improved it was over GTA4 but then stated it all was because they held GTA4 back intentionally so the sequel looked better. Just a marketing ploy used to sell copies and that this game is what GTA4 should have been. Also, that it was San Andreas in HD. They jump all around and I am not entirely sure they understand what they are raging about.

It does seem that every positive review is a 10 though.

Well everything was going kinda well.. I really have little experience with shooting on a controller and am finding the shooting action in the game pretty difficult. I live and die by the mouse and keyboard and first person, so its pretty clumsy to try and do non tactical shooting on a game pad.

However the flawless world sorta crashes on the mission "the long stretch", or as i like to call it, the long line of bulls**t.

#1 the game insist I try and use franklins ability to evade the police... franklins ability is %100 USELESS in evading the police.. its for racing!

#2 the traffic in the game is much more intelligent.. too inteligent. Every citizen of Los Santos becomes kyle petty when police are around. They don't stop.. they go FASTER. The zombie nation abandoned street blocks of GTA4 are no more, everyone drives like its no ones business. I laughed as I had 4 cop cars on my back on an enclosed sigle lane road and got cornered in a drive way. as I backed out (plowed out I should say) I was side swiped by a civilian car who some how thought it was OK to try and squeeze pass the mess of 4 squad cars and cops shooting it out.

#3 despite being a 3 star fight, I found the cops to be every bit as aggressive as a 5 star except no big guns like the armadillos. I went through at least 2 cars cause each one was getting its tires blown out with ease making it impossible to out run anything.

Btw anyone else hate the run mechanic? heck anyone else find it even working? They copied the horse running technique from RDR, sorry but rapidly pressing a button is not what I want to do for hours on end. Also afaik the blue bar is supposed to be stamina? it never goes down. If the blue bar is not then the game gives you no stamina meter, which is just as broken.

The running in GTA has always been tapping. If you hold the button you will lose stamena and have to catch your breath.

The left trigger should work as an auto lock-on on console. Coming from PC, that is actually a bit awkward because the mouse aiming is so much better. You hold the right MB to bring up the targeting, and then aim. The controller just locks on and you can sort of aim, but not really. Makes headshots cumbersome if you ask me.

Also, you don't have to mash the sprint, you can hold it, but it will go down. I believe the mashing of sprint was initially a bug in GTA3 or Vice City, and they kept it around because people liked it.

In GTA4, the blue bar represented your body armor and the stamina bars have never been visible outside of mini games in a GTA game as far as I can remember.

Can't you turn off the auto aim anyway?

It seems people think it is a lot better than in past games though.

As far as the shooting is concerned, when you press L2 (PS3 version) it will auto target an enemy. After you shoot him and he's down, release L2 and press it again to target the next enemy. I think if you press left and right on the left analog while targeted it will target another enemy, but I haven't gotten the hang of that yet.

Now, on to "the long stretch." I had to retry this mission a few times to get it done, but it's do-able. Franklin's evading capability does come in handy with the police. For example, I've had lots of police cars drive directly at my car trying to get me to stop. This is when I'll hit the evade, and scoot right around them easily, and turn it off.

Another is when they set up a road block. If there are multiple cars blocking the road, there's usually space on the left or right to get around them. Use the evade, sneak in between the car and the wall, and you're on your way.

Finally, when you see one cop car on the side of the road stopped, this is usually when they have set up the spike strips. Use the evade and try to scoot past the car on the side where theres a wall, or just plow through him to avoid the spike strips.

Once you have gotten far enough away from the cops your stars will start blinking, and they will have temporarily lost you. It's just a matter or laying low or hiding during these times to get them off your back. I've had luck going into a parking garage or hiding between houses where they can't see you. Try to focus on the map so you can see where the cop cars are, and drive away from them.

Yea I passed it, you really need to do a quick lose and then hide in the ally streets. If you run to far you dont get any allys and have to face the cops head on. Didn't really have a problem with the cops cutting me off, it is so second nature to swerve and evade them.

I use the lock on alot, but it doesn't work when driving when I need it most. The run button has 2 modes, holding it down is like jogging and I don't think it uses stamina, tapping it goes into a full sprint which I would assume uses stamina. Actually I know this because on the jogging race mission I could hold down run safely but tapping run to sprint in front of the girl caused me to eventually run into hp draining. I could then hold onto the run button while it recharged (but again the blue bar did nothing, i could not see any stamina meter).

Gameplay question: Not sure I like the idea of controlling 3 characters at the same time...is this the official gameplay or an option?

I got a PS3 version at lunch; waiting to play when I get home.
I have never played a shooter on a console and it scares me to death.

I don't understand how you aim. With a mouse, it is simple to get headshots.
How do you get headshots with a lock-on mode? How with a sniper rifle?
Oh well... I look at it as a learning experience.

I have been playing mouse/keyboard shooters since Wolfenstein 3D.
My only experience with a console shooter was Goldeneye on N64 at a friend's house.
I don't remember getting a single kill against him.

I heard that when you switch, the other 2 go about their business as usual as an NPC. I don't there is anything to worry about.

I think you have the ability to switch between any during the mission, so I'd assume, you can not switch at all and explore just a single character.

If it is anything like GTA4, the left trigger (L2) will lock on to the nearest target. You can use the right joystick to switch left and right between targets. If you move the right joystick slightly while locking on, it will move the targeting redicule slightly in that direction (allowing for headshots). With something that has a scope, like a sniper rifle, the L2 takes you into the scoped mode instead, and you can use the left joystick to zoom in / out and the right to aim.

You can switch mid-mission and when you are walking around with no action while one of the other characters is in an intense scene you get a pop up and a tone telling you to switch to that character so you can be in the thick of things. The game tries not to have you bored during a mission.

from IGN
The actual act of switching between them also provides a window into their individual lives and habits, fleshing out their personalities in a way that feels natural and novel. Pick a character and the camera zooms out over the San Andreas map, closing back in on wherever they happen to be. Michael might be at home watching TV when you drop in on him, or speeding along the motorway blasting ‘80s hits, or having a cigarette at the golf club; Franklin might be walking out of a strip club, munching a bag of snacks at home, or arguing with his ex-girlfriend; there’s a good chance that Trevor could be passed out half naked on a beach surrounded by dead bodies or, on one memorable occasion, drunk in a stolen police helicopter.

from game informer
Once the heists begin, the signature innovation driving Grand Theft Auto V takes center stage. During these missions you can instantly switch between each of the three characters. Rockstar often uses this mechanic to avoid the hassle of relocating to meet another wave of enemies, imploring you to switch via a blinking icon and noticeable sound effect to keep you in the thick of the action. The transitions occur smoothly, and the speed at which you swap characters is impressive.

That actually sounds like it works. I was a bit skeptical of the 3 protagonist approach at first, but it might not be bad. I was planning on doing a quick run through using one, then another, and finally a final that I'd keep, but that sounds closely tied together, I could just do a single playthrough and not "miss" any stuff.

Don't they rarely give solid 10 scores on games? Or is that gamespot? Gonna work from home tomorrow I guess.

It used to be rare IIRC, but it hasn't been as of late. IGN also pisses me off in that their review mentions flaws that never make it in the final score. Based off of what they said it should be a 9 or 9.5 if they want to do that crap, but a perfect 10 means they have NOTHING to complain about... which wasn't true.

Nope...they never say 10 is perfect, not once and not ever. 10 is not perfect.

10.0 - MASTERPIECE

Simply put: this is our highest recommendation. There’s no such thing as a truly perfect game, but those that earn a Masterpiece label from IGN come as close as we could reasonably hope for. These are classics in the making that we hope and expect will influence game design for years to come, as other developers learn from their shining examples.

Examples: The Last of Us, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Grand Theft Auto IV

Installing now and making some food since it takes forever. I kinda feel bad for my little brother because he wanted a copy but they were sold out.

Played a bit and the only two things I wish were different is the radio needs to be louder even when it is all the way up. It could use some AA lol. One thing I can't wait for next gen is a little AA.

I play with my turtle Beach's on so I don't have a radio problem. I do agree with the AA. This is the best GTA can look on current gen tho. The next GTA, actual next gen game should look amazing but this one looks way better then GTA 4 for damn sure.

With surround you have more of the sounds from behind you and such.

I had a lot of texture pop-up on the PS3 version in the intro after you do the initial heist. Did anyone else experience texture pop-up or does it get better? I also have an issue where the camera starts to rotate while driving when it thinks I should be making a turn. Maybe that was just for the intro Franklin mission and not a consistent thing.

When I drive normally the camera doesn't move
