Has anyone that preordered driven the blimp yet? Or found a parachute for that matter?

Yes and yes...I landed a helicopter on the blimp and flew it. Not impressive. The parachute is next to a cable car. I wil have to verify the exact local when I get home. Will update then.

Sounds like your HDD is bad, not a disc read issue. I'd reinstall it on the HDD before I exchange anything.

I went and bought a used HD from a local used game store...same issue. Never had write/read issues with any other games. Twitter seems to reveal other users having issues too.

I've driven the blimp. No parachute yet. After you've entered your code for the blimp in the PS Store (or Xbox equivalent I suppose), when you first start the game back up you'll get a message saying you can call the blimp on your phone for delivery. Unfortunately, delivery doesn't actually mean they bring it to you, but the icon will appear on your map and you can go to it and take the blimp with no worries. The blimp is slow as molasses and cumbersome to fly, as expected, but it's a ****ing blimp, which, let's face it, is pretty awesome in a silly way.

Peter Molyneux:
"The newly released Grand Theft Auto V is a game that's everywhere, you can hardly avoid it. It will achieve around $1 billion in revenue on consoles in just one month.
"Sounds impressive, doesn't it? No. That's not impressive."
This quote comes across as stupid taken out of context. But he's comparing the return on investment from a game that cost $250 million to mobile games with a steady revenue stream, and in that context his point doesn't seem quite so absurd. Granted, not every mobile game is going to achieve a million-fold return on investment, but neither is every big budget game going to do $1 billion in sales, so if you have your druthers as a producer, you go for the smaller cost with greater potential ROI. It's a sound investing strategy... and a really terrible way to make games. Let's face it, we, as gamers, don't want more Clash of Clans, pay-to-play, endless microtransaction nonsense, we want Grand Theft Autos. And you'd think Molyneux, with all his bluster about fantastical achievements his games can never actually do, would realize that. What a blowhard.

That is strange. Maybe your disc is having an error installing it.

Update on parachute location. It is on top of Mount Chiliad in the far north-western area of the map near the cable car.

I will check that out.

I think I am going to restart so I can posture myself to be much more wealthy after a few missions. >_> I want to amass a horde of wealth!

Also, being able to silence any gun is amazing. At least, most guns.

Infinite cash at this location. Dive down to the tail section of a crashed plane, the part that is broken off from the fuselage, and there is a flashing box with $12,000. Switch characters and it'll respawn. Or if you save and reload it should also come back.

Also this location below has a spawn point for an exotic super car. The Bugatti Veryon clone is the most common. It's called the Adder in the game. Supposed to be the fastest car available. I've also got the Coil Voltec (Tesla Roadster) from there.

I can't find the rare car spawn. It is night though.

Here's a video where it is located. Just go up and down the street with the clothing shop and you'll see some cars parked along the side of the road. The supercars pop there. You can find more than just the Adder so you may have to go drive away and let it cycle and come back

http://youtu.be/5JB8rXzzEyw

BTW: The adder is slightly faster than the Entity XF but the Entity has slightly better handling. I haven't raced with it either yet, I need to upgrade my Adder and I'll compare it to the upgraded Infernus which stops on a dime, accelerates like it's launched from an aircraft carrier, but handles like ice skates.

I'm scared to drop too much $$ on car upgrades etc- seems a common bug where cars are disappearing from not only the garage @ the homes of the characters but also the outside garages... saving them @ a garage, saving game, coming back and car is gone- not at impound or garage. hope they patch that soon. Also sounds like taking a car on a mission can cause it to disappear as well.

How do the garages even work? I haven't been using them because I just don't know when to use which one. I don't know if the game tried to explain it to me, but if it did it was probably during some dialogue or when I was being shot at, and the game didn't come with a manual or anything.

Basically what I did is this...you get a car to begin with that respawns. Take that for missions unless you need a fast car then use the Adder which is easily relocated but don't upgrade it. Save your upgraded cars in the garage for races and to cruise around. The good thing is the races don't restrict your car.

Garages are easy to use. Just drive up to the door and you are prompted to press right on the d-pad. Do that and you will park the car inside. Then just walk to the door to exit and your car will remain there. Quicksave via the phone and you're done. To retrieve a car simply walk to the garage door and press right on the d-pad to enter. Then get in a vehicle and you will be placed outside. I have never had a car disappear from the garage. If you crash it, die, or get arrested you will lose whatever vehicle you were driving at the time. So remember not to use your upgraded cars for missions and the like. Though after missions, go to the impound. Your car will be there but it will cost $250 to get back. This is why I keep two adders in my garage. One has all the upgrades on it and the other is stock. I can take the stock one out if I need to and I keep the good one for races. You can store cars at your safehouse too by simply driving in and getting out. The car will stay there until you take it. The outside garages can store multiple vehicles. You can also store bikes, I have an upgraded Bati 801 in one garage too.

Also I don't know how but I got an Elegy RH8 that I can access from my garage with Franklin at any time (I was prompted to press the d-pad right to access special vehicles inside the garage), also an assault SMG for free with all the upgrades from Ammunation. I did not buy these and I don't remember finding them. Anyone know where those came from? The only stuff I unlocked that I remember was from the ammunation shooting range challenges. I got an AP Pistol for free that way. The SMG and assault rifle I had to buy from the store. I also entered the blimp code but it didn't mention getting anything else from that.

Oh and don't load the game from an autosave, it will put you at your safehouse and you will lose the car you were driving if you were driving one when it saved. That might be what is happening when people say they lose cars. if you don't park it or load from a quick save, you will definitely lose whatever you're driving.

Played three hours.

1) Graphics are pretty damn good. And I didn't expect to say that, because the 360 is an ancient piece of hardware, but they are pretty good, tons of detail inside buildings

2) First major bug I had is on the yacht theft mission, when Franklin is on top of the car if I crash the car he flies off. He then gets back into the car, not on it, and then despite catching up to the yacht he never gets out and the mission is impossible to finish. I noted surprisingly that while this was happening and I couldn't finish the mission that 100% of other vehicles on the road disappeared; it was entirely empty except for mine

3) How often does the cropduster land at the airport east of the lake? I saw it land once, got in it, but the cops got to me before I could fly off. I then went back and waited 20 min but it just flew around and never landed

I picked up the game last night and put maybe 2.5 hours into it. Some random thoughts:

- Graphics look really good on the 360. Draw distance is impressive, I haven't really noticed any frame rate issues. It isn't top of the line graphics by any means but it really fits the world well.
- Driving controls suck for fast cars. I guess I just need to get used to it but if I'm not driving in a straight line, I can't do anything. If it's a case of having to upgrade your car to make it handle decent, that sucks because I don't find it in GTA-style to have to keep up with a car. It's called GTA after all.
- Voice actors are really good and well spoken. I'm able to keep up with the story so far because I can understand them without having to crank the sound up.
- I hate the little black box in the upper-left corner that is telling you how to do stuff. I sit about 7' from a 47" TV and it's so small that I don't notice it pop up half the time. When I do notice, I have to focus on the small text so much that the game itself completely disappears in my peripheral. This sucks when they're telling you how to do 8 different things while you're trying to do something during a mission.
- So far, the missions have been entertaining and different. I hope that keeps up (looks like it will).

I plan to put a lot more time into it this weekend. I hate new GTA games just for the sole fact that I don't know the map yet and that's only fixed with time. From what I've seen of the map so far though, I like the variation between parts of the city...haven't traveled north yet.

Yeah the car handling while trying to race, sucks. The map exploring is fun. I have played 3 hours or so and I can pretty much tell where I've been to one section before. Getting used to the city takes some time.

Also, what is up with the missions in your phone? You can go to the progress in the phone and it will list past time activities as missions but I'm not sure, are you suppose to find them ?

The more you drive the better driving skill you get. Cars get a bit easier to handle at that point. Upgrades do help if you plan to race, I have found that it is more important to take turns etc carefully and let the other racers wreck into eachother. Instead.

I hope so. The only mission I have not finished, and I've only got Franklin and Michael, is the first racing side quest. Need to find some more time to play so I can build each character's strength.

So, I realize if I were to ever steal a helicopter in real life, I'd probably die. I am awful at flying them (even with maxed out flying because I went to flight school).

cmdrdredd, I had both the EH8 and the Assault SMG for free as well. Did you happen to get gold on the shooting range? I got all gold on the SMG portion, and imagine it could be from that.

Some mission I was on gave me like 8000 bullets for the SMG, so it is nice to have a fully upgraded one.
