I picked up the game last night and put maybe 2.5 hours into it. Some random thoughts:
- Graphics look really good on the 360. Draw distance is impressive, I haven't really noticed any frame rate issues. It isn't top of the line graphics by any means but it really fits the world well.
- Driving controls suck for fast cars. I guess I just need to get used to it but if I'm not driving in a straight line, I can't do anything. If it's a case of having to upgrade your car to make it handle decent, that sucks because I don't find it in GTA-style to have to keep up with a car. It's called GTA after all.
- Voice actors are really good and well spoken. I'm able to keep up with the story so far because I can understand them without having to crank the sound up.
- I hate the little black box in the upper-left corner that is telling you how to do stuff. I sit about 7' from a 47" TV and it's so small that I don't notice it pop up half the time. When I do notice, I have to focus on the small text so much that the game itself completely disappears in my peripheral. This sucks when they're telling you how to do 8 different things while you're trying to do something during a mission.
- So far, the missions have been entertaining and different. I hope that keeps up (looks like it will).
I plan to put a lot more time into it this weekend. I hate new GTA games just for the sole fact that I don't know the map yet and that's only fixed with time. From what I've seen of the map so far though, I like the variation between parts of the city...haven't traveled north yet.
There should be an option to have the game pause when tips like that come up.
I can't believe there is no map zoom option. How the hell is that not in this game?
