Give me a bit, I dont have Max Payne 3 , but I do have Arkham City, so i'll give you some kind of idea how that runs later on here.
Mass Effect 3, you'll run easily at 2560x1440.

there is no such thing as DX9 extreme settings.
Well that is what the menu says, I have...
Directx 11 Features - off
Directx 11 tesselation - off
Detail Level - Extreme

the menu is weird. all you did was disable the DX11 features but the menu stayed on the "extreme" preset. its just a glitch.

if you just select the extreme setting by itself you will see that it turns on DX11 features with tessellation on high. so basically extreme just bumps the tessellation up from normal to high which is a DX11 feature only anyway.

It also suggests that ill need a 7950 at the least to make it a worthwhile upgrade. Sigh. Ill play it windowed mode.

I have a Shimian and I run games with a single 560ti. It's not ideal, of course. But, you will be surprised how much your 470 will handle. I've played ME3 and Arkham City, and, they both look great. AC needs some of the settings reduced, but you don't need to (or want to) play in 1080. You won't need to have much AA going at this res, if any at all, for things to look less jagged. So, that's something to keep in mind. These screens look great. The difference in user experience more than makes up for the reduction in graphics bling compared to 1080p, especially compared to a cheapo TN panel. Maxed games on a 1080p TN panel look shabby in comparison to 1440p with reduced settings.

I think the best advice in this thread is to play the games and see how it goes. Then you can decide if the 470 performance is acceptable to you, or not.

How much of an OC can you get on the 470? I'd try to eke out another 10-15% from overclocking, then try it at max settings and reduce from there as needed until you're comfortable with the gaming experience. If worse comes to worst and you just can't make it work, I'd probably grab a 7950 and then OC the crap out of it.
