Hi all, I recently hit the rsod on my 670. I am not sure why it started as I have not changed anything on my system.

What is happening is immediately upon starting windows, right before the login screen, I get the RSOD. I cannot even log into windows (only safemode).

I have been reading other threads on it and saw it was related to other programs such as GPUz, certain widgets, asus gpu tweak, etc. I tried loading the latest nvidia drivers and the later 2.1.5.0 gpu tweak software and it did not fix it.

Now, I reformatted my OS, reinstalled Win7. I was able to boot into windows just fine. Then I proceeded with loading all my MB drivers and once again installed the latest video card drivers and latest Asus tweak software. Rebooted the system for changes to take effect and bam, RED FKING SCREEN IS BACK....

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to fix this?

I faced the same issue with my 680 until I figured that the gpu tweak monitor is the culprit.Disable them from starting up with windows.Afterwards just run the gpu tweak not the monitor.

Ye avoid any tweaking programs till you are sure it works as baseline. Aka nVidia drivers only.

I am pretty sure that the card has to be bad. I have since, in reinstalled windows three times to have a clean start. I am installing nothing more than base drivers for my system. Windows works and loads fine every single time until I load the Nvidia display driver. I have tried both 301.25 and 301.42 and either way, even with only the display driver selected and nothing else (tweak, hd audio, etc are all not selected), I get RSOD on normal windows boot. Safe mode boots fine.

I can uninstall the nvidia driver and reboot and get in windows no problem, then driver cleaner and reinstall display driver and windows RSODs.

I am almost 100% positive this is a bad card because I was using this setup for almost 2 months (with the 301.25 drivers) and changed nothing and started getting the RSOD yesterday. Putting my system completely back to stock with just windows and just the 301.25 chipset driver like I had originally done is still causing RSODs.

I have a feeling that the 3d part of this card died and the 2d is working fine, that explains why when no drivers are installed, the card appears to work fine.

Any other suggestions? I have already contacted ASUS via the email support request, I am hoping to RMA this card.

Thanks.

Let us know how your RMA experience is with Asus. I always like the look of their products but hear mixed things.

Last efforts to try would be if there is an updated BIOS for the card maybe, but it is possible that there was just something faulty on your card. Don't feel bad, I got two bad EVGA cards in a row (switched to Gigabyte.)

Thanks, well, using my old Radeon XTX1900 until this gets straightened out...

Yeah, I'm getting the exact same thing as the OP. I've tried everything under the sun to alleviate the problem too. Really hoping I don't have to RMA. I'm still holding out for a fix!

I never did any overclocking. Also, I was using EVGA's monitoring software as I had heard about ASUS's software causing issues. The card worked fine for about 6 weeks, then up-and-seemingly died on me! It was great while it worked-- insanely cool temps and very quiet-- but for anyone reading this and considering this GPU, you might want to look elsewhere...

Just returned an Asus 670 DCII w/ same symptoms. It was an OB purchase from newegg. Fortunately, my 670 Top is rock solid.

Typical of new cards from nvidia, they usually straighten these things out w drivers pretty quickly. Hopefully the replacement will fare better.

You mean, after they kill the first batch of cards with bad drivers?

(Remembering the couple (?) of NV drivers that killed cards in the past.)

Have you tried theh vbios update from the asus support site? I've heard it fixed the RSOD problems that plagued the TOP model.

Personally I bought one AFTER the vBios update and it's running perfectly.

even works on hackintosh(s) (10.7.4 Netkas Driver)

So I just installed the new bios update and things seem to be running fine again. Two puzzling things, though:
1. I had installed the new bios before a few weeks ago, but was still red screening.
2. I got an error message after running the bios install program saying something to the extent of my current graphics card not matching the program. Basically, it looked like it wasn't installing.

Also, I don't know if this did anything, but before installing the NVidia drivers I went to controlpanel>hardware and sound>display> change display settings>advanced settings>troubleshoot> and then put the GPU accelerator slider all the way down to the lowest setting. Maybe this will help someone with the same issue.

So far I haven't really tested it out very much. I opened a game for a few minutes just to make sure things were working. If any other problems come up I'll be sure to post on this thread.

Glad I got this sucker working because I was just about pack it up and head over to the post office! I should probably knock on wood though. The day I started getting the RSOD was the same day I wrote a glowing review for it on NewEgg!

While I didn't have a RSOD issue with my Asus GTX 670 top, I did have random black screen hard locks. It ran just fine for almost three months, but once it started having these sporadic crashes nothing, including fresh windows install or running it at minimum frequency, would get it back to being stable. (And yes, it's definitely the card at fault as I swapped it with a friend who bought the same card for a few days and the crashes followed the card.)

So now I get to wait up to a month for the RMA process because Asus can't be bothered to even offer an advanced replacement option - that in itself is pretty pathetic service far as I'm concerned. I'm just concerned that there might be long term reliability issues with the Asus design.

Well I finally got my RMA card today and popped it in. First thing to note, the part where you screw it into the chassis to secure it in place was bent to all hell. I cant even screw it into place in its current position. I put the PC on its side and just to test it out, loaded up latest drivers and tested it out. It ran fine for a few hours just idling in windows/using internet etc. loaded D3 a few times real quick just to test.

Later today I logged into D3 for about an hour or so and hit the freaking crash red screen issue again. Rebooted windows right back into Red screen of death again. I am trying to get a full refund this is BS and I don't have time to keep messing with this crap. This is the last time I buy ASUS...

Well I contacted ASUS asking for a full refund and they were not able to do that. They did say they will cross ship me a new card though and send prepaid shipping for my return.

I am just wondering what to do now because I don't think the new card is going to fix my issue. It seems the RSOD is a problem with the hardware/firmware of the card and maybe incompatibilities with my configuration.

Anyone have any suggestions on this? Should I just go sell the new card and buy an ATI 7870 or 7950 instead?

Has anyone heard if Nvidia acknowledges this problem yet and is offering a fix for it? I am just trying to see what the best option is since I really want to keep the 670 it just doesn't want to work with my system!

PS After leaving my computer powered off completely (power cord unplugged so card completely power cycled), I am using Win7 again but I am afraid to go into any games because thats when it crashes.
