I think you will always find higher personal clocks than nV will ever release as stock, especially now that EVGA allows volt modding.

Higher base clock probably means even higher overclocks than the 260s you have seen.

well i was expecting it to be one of the cards from the gtx 295 with higher clocks, not just a higher binned gtx 260

Assuming those numbers are correct...

So it's just an overclocked GTX260? At 648MHz I bet it's pretty much on par with the GTX280, no? So this is what they're doing with 'bad' GTX285 chips...? This is to the GTX285 what the GTX260 was to the GTX280 then? As long as it's priced right it'll be a solid card no doubt.

Is this the end of the GTX 260? I don't see why Nvidia would need a GTX 260/275/285 line-up...they are too similar. I actually thought the 260/280or285 made sense.

I wonder what overclocked variants from board partners will be able to do, since some overclocked 260s already nip at the heals of the stock GTX 280s in some games.

Well it supposed to slot in under the GTX285.

Yeah, I bet this card is some 5-7% slower then GTX 285.

Who will buy from now on the GTX 285 if the 275 is so close to it? It's very weird.

Woulda been smarter to just drop the price of the GTX285 to either match the HD4980 or be maybe $10-$20 higher. There isn't enough performace difference between an Overclocked GTX 260 and a GTX 285 to justify slotting in another card. I would think marketing the card and coming up with a new reference design would cost more than they stand to make with the card.

I was expecting one of the 295 cores myself. Still do.

This is just a 260 OC/SSC/Toxic/XXX etc. etc. etc. Makes no sense.

Again, higher stock base = higher partner OC's which probably = higher personal OCs. It works the same for some of ATi's new fillers coming out.

None if this is groundbreaking for anyone with a little knowledge of rivatuner, however.

Both sides are sitting around playing with 5-10% improvements through raised core and memory clocks, while we sit back and want to see the real next thing.

Doubt it. Just look at the GTS 250 reviews. My older 8800GTS G92 can hit over 800 on the core.

Most factory OC 65nm hit these and higher clocks no problems

Truthfully it's just not impressive, I would of much rather seen a GTX280 core on this card. Instead it looks like the GTX260 will more than likely be replaced by this card.

So basically it's an overclocked 260 c216. I smell desperation in the air, however, ATI is doing the same thing with 4890.

All in all great news for the new buyers. Everyone else who has current gen card can safely skip till next gen in the fall.

Not so much desperation as smart business by the two companies. When the economy slows, they dont have as much drive to release new high-end parts. They need to sell what they already have.

Add in some 40nm delays, and there you have it.

And you would know this from which reliable source?

Intestering times. It's amusing to watch it all.. the leaks, the spin, and the reactions from those "in the know."

As I watch people speculate, I keep reflecting on AT's recent article "The RV770 Story", which tells the tale of how much really goes into a product launch. It's staggering when you really think about it. Neither side can afford a piss poor investment of resources at this point. We should keep that in mind as we toil over these updates..

Bingo. Call it trying to recover some of their enormous R&D spend on G92/G200 development. If they released a "next-gen" card today the sales of this current generation would fall in the toilet. Why cannibilize your own sales six months early for no good reason?

what do you mean 6 months early? it took about 8 months to go from g92 to gt200(same thing with ati), it's now 8 months since the last architecture which is why we're starting to get riled up about the next gen cards

Maybe nV spread this misinformation to throw ATI off and they're actually releasing the GTX 375??!!!

Ouch, was expecting this to be a higher clocked GTX 295 core with the full SP/TMU units less the 8th mem controller and ROPs. Instead it looks like its just going to be a 13% overclock of the GTX 260, I'm willing to bet these have the better overclocking B3 revision cores found on the 285 and 295. Interesting that Nvidia thinks this will be enough to match or beat the RV790 though, that 13% overclock certainly looks familiar.....

This is underwhelming to say the least. While reports suggest ATI isn't putting out a "new" chip with the RV790 it is at least a high end chip that over takes most of its lineup other than x2 variants.

Plugging in another mid-ranged card right between other mid-range cards just adds to consumer confusion and frustrates enthusiasts. I will be quite surprised if this manages to hang with the RV790.

Really? This frustrates you? Bahahha

Both sides are just upping clocks and adding memory. To pretend otherwise is silly.
