hahah... well if FUD is right in his blurb $250 is looking pretty attractive.

Well, having a GTX295 core on the GTX275 would definitely step things up a bit. Same exact specs all around as the GTX260 216 except with 24 more shaders. This would perform just shy of GTX285 if clocks are equal.

That is the weird part. Is just "too shy" of GTX 285. Maybe closing in some 5-8% of it. This could really hurt the sales of the most powerful single gpu card, Nvidia has.

I have a feeling that until the economy at least levels off, and sees it's bottom, we are going to see a lot of nonsensical things come about. Slower to market new gen products than we've ever seen before.

Sorry to ask something that might already be common knowledge and even off topic, but what is beyond the GTX275 ?

Meaning, when will the next all-new high-end nVidia architecture launch ?

I'm asking because I'm thinking of getting a 260 216 within the month - for a friend's cheap nehalem build.

Here in the South Africa enthusiast-type PC components are ludicrously expensive so any purchase, especially a GPU, is usually done with immense trepidation.

But as keys mentioned above, I too believe that it might be a while until we see a new ultra high end part, from either manufacturer, I still wanted to check with you guys first though

MSRP for the GTX275 is supposed to be around 249US. GTX260 216 could be found for as low as 159US after rebate.

What are your options? What is your budget, and what does a GTX260 216 cost in SA?

In SA its not a pretty picture, GTX 260 216 is around 350US - from the suppliers.

Budget is around that mark for gfx, with the system having to last at 1680x1050 max details without AA for 2 around years.

I think when the GTX275 finally hits in SA it can only be more expensive than what the GTX260 already is, leaving it out of the running in any case.

The fact that it is a 275 tells you where it is supposed to fall. New chips arent coming out until fall (most people are saying).

my comment was more along the lines of them not adding anything to it to make it different. according to that info, it's literally the same hardware just a slightly higher clock. no added pipelines or RAM or anything else to make it at least a Refresh.

Inventories are high right now because of the economy.

That is why we keep getting rebins of the same old chips.

My question is, if someone gets upgradeitis, and all the graphics companies have to offer is a clocked up version of the same card they have. Will they upgrade?

I know i wouldnt.

So to save sales on their old cards, they are gutting sales on new cards...

Ive been waiting for an alternative to the GTX260 C216 / Radeon 4870 1GB bracket.

This is not it.

yeah, and if nvidia is only putting out a slightly faster core 216 then it's reasonable to assume that ati won't be throwing out a killer, either... guess who loses this battle? us... well, most of us, I just gave up and got a core 216.

Fudzilla is still claiming it will be a 240 shader chip with 448bit memory bus and CPU clock of 633Mhz....of course they give no link to their source, nor any sort of hint to who the source is, Magic 8 ball?

I suppose they are just as reliable as sites claiming it is an overclocked GTX 260 216 though.

Fudzilla just figures that if they make enough guesses then one of them will end up being reasonably close.

If it really runs ~ 650 core/448 bit/216 then it will be slightly faster than gtx 280 at lower resolutions, about the same in 19x12, and slightly slower at 25x16. Of course, you could just oc your gtx 280 in most cases to get better performance since you can always fiddle with mhz but changing sp's, ring bus, etc are another matter.

the odds of them doing a second die shrink on the gtx200 series in less than a year are VERY low. trust me, even if they did it you wouldn't want it

One of the rumor mill sites (TheInq maybe?) was saying that Nvidia is actually losing money on the GTX295's (take that rumor for what you will). But if that's the case, and Nvidia has a bunch of these GPU's that can do more than the GTX260, but still less than the GTX285, I guess this is another way for them to sell the silicon but make a few bucks more, so I can see them doing it for that reason.

But too most of us this is kind of a 'bleh' part as it'll fit in-between two parts that already aren't all that far apart in performance. Kind of like if AMD released a 2.9GHz PhII quad to fit between the 920 and 940.

The inq is the worst fanboy of them all. Well, maybe not worse than wreckage, but they're pretty bad. It's too bad, though, because sometimes they are very accurate (think june 08). If they weren't so obviously biased against nvidia it would be easier to actually read their articles.

Well, is not the inquirer as a whole, is Charlie who's hold a grudge against nVidia, so every chance that he gets to bash them he will, but usually 70% of what he says is true, but he exaggerates a little. I found this link and is quite logical of what he's stating, like when he investigated about the bad bumps in the 84xx/8600 parts. http://www.theinquirer.net/inq...iewers-mythical-gt275s
