He was right about JHH lying to the public.
He was right about card not arriving in the Fall.
He was right about JHH showing a fake wooden card to fool investors.
He was right about He was right about Fermi not arriving in December.
He was right about the multiple, endless respins.
He was right about the design defects that caused the long-long delay.
He was right about Fermi not arriving in January-February.
He was right about not coming in 512 corse.
He was right about Fermi being unmanufacturable with original clocks and cores.
He was right about Fermi being late, even beyond March.
He was right about Fermi being out-of spec both in terms of power and thermal with its original clocks and specs.
He was right about having horrible yields.
He was right about Fermi being cut down to 4xx cores to make it manufacturable.
He was right about lowered clocks to make it manufacturable and standard-compliant -> marketable whatosever.
He was right about the final shipping date.

Did I miss something..?

You forgot all the statments he made in the other direction so it was impossible to be wrong.
If someone says the sky is cloudy, sunny and blue, and they get the blue part right, does that make them right? NO!

Stop defending that bias piece of crap, it even makes you look bad.
It's like wreckage defending Rollo. :hmm:

This was news repeated by another source , not Charlie though.
The one thing he predicted (Nvidia won't release till DEC,) he got wrong.
Why bother, lol. His minions twist every WRONG prediction in to being right by adding 'what he really meant'. Its rather pathetic.
Its like giving credibility to a fortune teller. I'm sure if they skimmed through Nostradamus writings, they would find Charlie being right about Fermi in there.

This thread is derailed as usual, why bother talking about the gtx580 reviews?

There is allready a 6990 vs gtx580 thread right?

The ignore list has made this thread semi-bearable.

I can still see that the attempted derailment, however.

Snarky comments regarding the ignore list are not adding value to the thread.

Please don't make these kinds of comments in the technical forums.

One thing that bugs me is how so many reviews are "incomplete" in that they don't include all the things that it would be nice to see compared.

Almost all of them (AT excepted) don't include SLI/Crossfire results from other cards (like the 6800 and GTX460's) which would be a comparable cost.
It would also be nice to see different levels of AA in games etc.

What kind of contribution is this?

The kind of contribution that children in preschool make when they clamp their palms over their own ears and start yelling "NA NA NA NA I can't hear you!!!"

Regarding a GTX595: There will be a 6990 almost certainly, right? So one would hope that there will be a single card solution from Nvidia to compete with that.

Did anyone here actually end up buying a GTX 580? I'm looking at the Gigabyte model on Newegg right now.

Very lame strawman, pal... I posted a list, you didn't post crap so far.

Again, put up or...

Well, eventually, of course but when? Next Spring, as I joked?

The 580 is being sold for a higher price than the 5970 is on Newegg right now. One would have to be out of their mind to buy the 580 at that price point. Doubtless, there will shortly be people who will say buying a more expensive and slower card is worth it because it says Nvidia or PhysX or something on it. *Glances at prices and performance* "Yup the 580 is another win for NV"

Really? So Fermi is a myth.

He was right about JHH showing a fake wooden card to fool investors.
Again, really? Yes, we know that the card in his hand were fake because it looked too good for a tech demo. How did you know that the one running inside the PC is not real?

He was right about the design defects that caused the long-long delay.
Did not we knew that there was a problem at TMSC? Cypress was a paper launch, and we all know it is due to TMSC. Did you remember AMD actually increased the pricing? Fermi 480 was not a paper launch.

He was right about Fermi not coming in 512 cores flavor.
He was right about Fermi being unmanufacturable with original clocks and cores.

Meet GTX 580. If Charlie is right, then GTX 580 is a miracle.

He was right about having horrible yields.
Do you have difficulty getting Fermi cards for the pass few months?

There was a technical difficulties combined with TMSC problems with lead to the delay of 480s. That is very different from it being "un-manufacturable."

So basically he said "IT IS IMPOSSIBLE!" and then he said "IT IS POSSIBLE BECAUSE..."

You missed this subject earlier in this thread and the reasons behind it.

Sadly, I think we need a "NV" and "AMD" video sub-section and force everyone to pick one board and only post positive things. Seriously, every thread lately is completely derailed by fanatics. It is getting rediculous.

I'm not sure if this thread is still about the GTX580 but here is my take.

Compared to the card it replaces, the GTX480, it is a decent improvement - 15% more performance with something like 8-10% less power consumption.

Compared to AMD cards it does a better job of differentiating itself from the 5870 than the GTX480 did. While the GTX480 was 15% faster on average than the 5870 (occasionally a bit more especially when the 1GB ram can limit the 5870/ games that favour NVIDIA architecture) the GTX580 is generally 25-30% faster, from both the AMD and own NVIDIA camp.

Of course the GTX580 isn't cheap, selling for $500+ when you can find 5870s going for $310 and lower and/or can get dual-gpu configurations that are faster and cheaper.

How good the GTX580 really is depends on how and when - how will the 6970 performs, how much it will cost and when the 6970 will arrive.

If the GTX580 has been released 1 year ago it would have been great. In April it would have been good. Now it is solid, although it can become better depending on the 6970.

The price and performance of this card puts it in competition with the 5970, so now I guess the question is what are the downsides of the dual GPU setup from AMD/ATI. I know in the past people talked about micro stutter and such, but have those issues been flushed out? If so, then I guess it would take the thunder out of this launch, but I'm not sure if that's the case. Could anyone clarify?

Guys, Fermi was crap. This card has slightly less crap. Runs a little cooler and quieter. This is a polished turd.

Thank you Anandtech for asking the question that not many reviewers seemed to care about.

So after all this time, nVidia still hasn't figured out how to add Dolby TrueHD/DTS Master HD bitstream output to their flagship model.

Unfortunately for that, I would have to stick with my 460 a bit longer.

I wonder if this feeble attempt by the red-sqaud to derail all of the 580 threads is because the 6XXX launch was a complete snooze-fest?

nV owning the top two GPUs on the market is really bothering some of you.

The 5970 comparisons are a joke. I don't think anyone in their right mind would mess with Xfire right now.

Lol this is hilarious coming from you... You talk about fanboys and then completely ignore the fact that 68xx Xfire has been raping everything else at its price point? Read the AT review and see for yourself

So yeah, I think lots of people in their right mind WOULD mess with Xfire

He was referring to comparisions to the 5970, at least I think he was.
