Gonna need a Haswell for the GTX 780, which is fine since I was already planning that
So, 7970(&Ghz) beat the 680 for about 15 months?
TPU reviewed the EVGA ACX cooler. http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/EVGA/GTX_780_SC_ACX_Cooler/
60% faster than the stock GHz at 1200p 4xAA in BF3 with an OC.
:
And how exactly gtx680 boosting +100MHz is not overclocked?7970 has never been faster, it took an overclocked sku "GHz" to beat the stock 680, that's never not been that case.
680 is faster at 1080 and 1600 than the 7970, it's equal to the GHz at 1080.
Because it may stay below power, thermal and acoustic thresholds -- when one overclocks they may go above!
Overclocking is the process of making a computer or component operate faster than the clock frequency specified by the manufacturer by modifying system parameters.
Same way my i5 boosting isn't an overclock. Intel doesn't even consider boosting "overclocking" because it's covered under their standard warranty, same as AMD's cpu boost.
Oh please. Not with technical stuff... It is not the place for that, its just hardware forum, we talk about cats & rainbows here...I was going to say the same but thought it might be too technical, perhaps just the definition will suffice?
Wow, defending GPU neutering, that's great. Next you'll be promoting having a company build your PC instead of doing it yourself. The fanboy apologizers that pay for performance because they're too ignorant to figure it out themselves are a cancer. Pathetic.
Does that mean 7970 GHz ed doesn't have warranty?
Some things I am interested in.
Clock for clock comparison with 7970 and Titan.
That would tell you (enthusiasts) the final value with an overclock as you can extrapolate pretty easily.
Overclock vs. Overclock Titan / 780 / 7970
Extreme OC vs. Extreme OC
When the next gen is arriving.
How many sponsored, or paid, as well as any other financially motivated shills there are in forums, including this one.
On a serious note, the clock for clock and OC comparisons would be nice at 1600p.
Did you see the definition I posted? I figured I was being too technical.
I hope that helps.

Price is relevant in your price bracket, if your price is $650 the 7970 is a lesser option, albeit cheaper. If your price bracket is $450 than the 7950 is a better option than the 7970, albeit slightly slower.
If price were no concern, than no one would buy a 780, they'd all go for a Titan/690/7990.Using just price/performance is a poor way to address high end video cards.
You make a good point that you can come very close to 7970 performance for less money (7950/670) and for most situations it makes sense to spend $260-300 rather than $350-400. However, sometimes the extra price is justified. I can spend an extra $50-60 on a 7970 over a 670 and get 20-30% more performance (overclocking on good air or H20 taken into account). That argument doesn't hold with the 7950 vs 7970 very well and the performance is only worthwhile in demanding games but the advantage is still there. The 650 Ti Boost is the best price/performance video card on the market, even at 1600p. Why would you argue price/performance for the 7970 over the GTX 780 when it's an inferior solution to many other cards below it as well? Well the 7970 sucks for price/performance, but it's better than the faster GTX 780 is an argument based on stupidity.
Can I ask a serious question? Why are shills allowed in this forum? If someone has financial or free hardware given to them by one company then all it does is pollute the forum with a biased one sided view of things.
Ohh I did! And answered...

With the 780, you're talking about 15% more performance for an extra $200-250. That's a huge jump up from the $50-60 you pay extra for a 7970 over the 670.
I think you can only definitively point to a couple of users that are sponsored. The rest are just as likely rabid fanboys... from both sides.
Using hotboxed temp target performance is a good way to skew your argument.
