being the helpful female that i am and the fact that guys make up--oh i don't know--maybe 98.75648293475% of the ATOT members, thought I'd share something that a gal pal emailed me earlier today, re: dating a girl. it's from the best of craigslist & was created almost a year ago, so if it has already been shared on here, sorry. here's a few of my own tips to help ya guys:

- #2 on the list (above link) is ironing your shirt, but puhleeze don't forget to be color-coordinated. i'm not saying you gotta look like Mr. GQ, but wearing a purple shirt and blue pants is not going to fly. if you're really not sure how to dress, ask a trustworthy friend or relative. jeans or khakis usually go with any color shirt, but if you're not sure, do ask someone. oh yeah, don't even think about wearing scruffy-looking shoes either. the key is you want to look put-together well and not haphazardly thrown together, got it?

- when you're at a restaurant and the hostess is holding the menus and wants you two to follow him/her, let your date follow the hostess. that means you walk behind your date unless you are holding her hand and walking side-by-side to the table. same rule applies when you're leaving the table and restaurant...have the girl lead unless she's not quite sure how to make her way to the front door, at which case you either tell/motion her in that direction or hold her hand.

- while at a restaurant, eat like you've been raised properly, that means place a napkin on your lap, and use a fork. please use the knife if eating something like steak, or basically any foods that are normally cut into pieces before landing in your mouth.

- this happened about a month ago with a guy friend of mine, needless to say i could tell he didn't understand the social norms. when it's time to pay the bill and you're paying in cash, don't pay the exact amount for the bill, then later leave the tip. if you have enough for the bill & tip, give it to the wait person and be done with it. another likely scenario--let's say the bill rounded up to the nearest whole dollar is $42 & you're paying with three $20s ($60), just tell the wait person what you want back for your change, excluding the tip.

that's all i can think of for now. if i come up with a few more overnight, i'll be sure to pass it on.

I always love reading dating tips. Most are such basic common sense on how to dress/act is is no wonder so many guys screw it up. Most people have no common sense or a sense of style for that matter.

The nice thing about being in Hawaii is that the whole "color coordinated" thing goes out the window when you wear an aloha shirt.

White shorts go with anything.

Flip flops are Ok as long as the tops aren't plastic.

what's not to get with this? the example is a $42 bill....and say you want to leave a 15% tip (rounded to the nearest dollar would be $7). so like just tell the waiter you want 11 bucks back. is that a better explanation?

It just sounds kind of ass backwards to me.

Honestly, I'd rather not directly inform the waitperson how much I'm going to tip them. Anytime I pay in cash (rarely), I just hand it to the water/waitress, wait for my change, and then leave the appropriate amount on the table. I'm generally a rather generous tipper, but if for some odd reason a female is going to hold this rather benign practice against me, then I'd prefer not to date her to begin with.

Yeah that's a good point.

I just never even worry about it anymore. I pay with cards everywhere these days, the tip amount is private between me and the waitress.

Honestly, as long as I'm nice, and charming, my financial habits shouldn't be of utmost focus.

my example had to do with paying the bill for in CASH, not credit card. credit cards are easier because it's just like what you said "writing tip amount on receipt".

let me make clear that getting the change back & then leaving the tip is fine too. i'm more of a not-waste-time kind of person, and that's why i offered the pointer of having the wait person just bring back the desired change excluding their tip.

truth be told...on a date, women in general don't usually care how much you tip because it is between you (the payer) & the wait person.

That would be a yes.

If a woman only picks a guy based on how much money he tips, or irons his shirts, if his shirt matches his pants to HER spec, etc... then the guy would be the lucky one to not have to see that kind of woman again.
