Out of about 12 refurbs from Newegg, only one didn't work correctly. Unfortunately it was a 17" monitor that cost $20 to ship each way. So I ended up losing $40 bucks!! Don't buy something heavy in the refurb section! My last purchase, a Liteon 12X CDRW with burnproof for $39 works perfect.

<< Newegg's refurbs are typically returns that they are reselling and they don't really refurbish/fix or even test the item. They just stock pile the returns and when they have enough they post them in their refurb section >>

How would you know this??? If you work for them, then I will take your word for it. If not, please keep your opinion to yourself. I have had great luck with every item I have recieved from newegg. I hope they get a few KR7A raids for me. I dont think any company would ever take a return that is not working for a customer, and sell it without checking. Newegg has a great rep, how do you think they got it? I just wished they where in another state, so I dont have to pay sales tax.

OK...my rant is over:disgust:

I Agree Newegg is a great company. I have never heard of a company doing somthing like this especially one that wants to be in business for long. I would guess that these are items that are bought in a liquidation like fashion from the vendors.

My "opinion" is based on my personal experience and the experience of others who have posted in this and other numerous Newegg refurb posts that appear daily in HD. I have received refurb items that worked and some that did not. If they are really testing these components and/or refurbishing/fixing them then why would people get a component that does not work? It's called logic my friend. The bright side of buying a refurb from Newegg is that it is easy to return and get credit or replacement. However, you do have to pay return shipping.

I like Newegg also and I think they have a great rep. I've ordered lots of stuff from them and I don't hesitate to refer them to my friends and coworkers for great deals. As I said, it's just the refurbs that can be a hit or miss with them. If they would weed out more of the "misses" it would help their reputation even more.

BTW, I can express any opinion I want concerning hot deals. Many hot deal threads contain numerous posts of people that have had good and/or bad experiences and share them with others to make informed decisions. That is one of the strong points of this deal forum!

On the topic of Newegg....how do you sign up for email alert when something comes back in stock. I've done it in the past, but don't see that option now. Am I missing something?

this thread can be moved to off topic... unless of course you wanted to include a link or something.. or keep a list of the current in-stock refurb items. otherwise.. i wouldn't mind if this thread died.

<< this is madness. is everyone doing what bush said?! spend till you're broke? but this is just for best of interest for the merchants not us. some of us already bought more then what we need, I dont see why I would want to spend anymore anytime soon. patience is virtue. you can get it for much less later and still have plenty of $$$ saved from today. dimm use to be 40 bucks per meg, today it is as little as 16megs per bucks. same with harddrive where 1mb = a dollar, today 40-50 megs per dollar. >>

Looking really, really hard for the point...

Refurb?
Try buying new. You might have BETTER luck getting refurb!
Bought an IWill motherboard form Newegg, and to be "safe", I skipped the refurb and bought "New".
They didn't send me a new MB. They didn't even send a refurb MB. They did send a used MB.
With Neweggs liberal return policy, if you don't like something you can return it.
But, it goes back into NEW stock, and some other buyer get's it.

At least if you buy refurb, you have a good chance of actually getting a part that has been
returned to the factory and checked out. If the manufacturer gets a lot of the same back,
for the same problem, they may find a component that was weak or poorly designed. Then
they will replace any and all of these parts, even if they didn't fail. So you may end up with
a refurb product that was/is better than new retail that doesn't have the updated components.

My buddy bought a refurbed KG7 from newegg, after he got the board he figured out why someone returned it. There was a grain of rice stuck in one of the DIMM slots. After removing the rice, motherboard worked fine. I honestly don't know what to make of it.

I picked up a 24x10x40 Lite-On CDRW drive there for $74 shipped. Works beautifully. It came with no software or anything though. So far I've used it with XP's built in burning capability and with MusicMach jukebox. What do you guys recommend for good cd burning software that supports overburning?

hehe, I once fixed a guys computer that wouldn't boot up...

had little metal army men all over the inside of the case. Apparently one of his kids thought it was cool to put the figures through the hole in the front of his case where he was missing a 5 1/4 bay cover.

Suprisingly, nothing was damaged. Worked fine once the soldiers were removed...

Its obvious that the refurbs are a good deal. The people who knock them are few(and bitter). I would have to guess that they are from the factory, and have been approved for resale. Can you think of any other reason why they are called refurbs? Theres your logic. Dont let one loudmouth ruin your opinion folks.

Their website used to state that these items are from inhouse returns and it is not real refurbs, as in from the manufacturer. I've had hit and misses with the refurbs, 1 mb, bios wouldn't load up, another one that was brand new, one dvd that was doa, video card that works great. It all depends on your luck. But it is true that these are NOT manufacturer refurb products as stated by Lanyap.
