Had my kitties declawed

So after an ongoing discussion back and forth for a few months with my fiancee trying to convince her that it's not needed to get the kitties declawed, I finally gave in and we had it done.

They had it done Tuesday with the Laser Declawing and I picked them up yesterday and brought them home, but have to say I am amazed how fine they seem, no bloody paws, not limping around, they just seem pretty much like nothing happened.

But I felt like a shyte head to be honest bringing them there to have it done, growing up my family always had cats and never once did we get them declawed, but I guess I just over thought it since they really seem fine.

It bothers me to see it done, claws are like fingers to cats. Its not as bad if you do it to them when they are very young. But I wouldn't declaw older cats.

I've trained my cats, they have never scratched anything but their scratching post.

Well the female (multi-colored one) was already clawing the shyte out of the walls, I had to stop her over a dozen times a day from doing it and I have damage done in a few places that I'll have to now fix before I move out of my apartment in a year.

make sure your declawed cats stay indoors. going outdoors = bad idea because your cats could face danger without claws.

They're indoor only anyways.

Next time, just declaw the front paws. Cats almost never use their back claws for destruction. They rarely claw you with their back feet unless you like to play very rough with them. They never claw furniture with their back feet.

Every once in a blue moon, a back claw may snag you accidently if they are on your lap and get startled, but that is a small price to pay

Thats what I had done, just the fronts.

It was a good thing to do. You would have went to hell if you declawed their back paws though.

Since they are house cats, it will save you grief and should provide happier times for you and the cats.

Having seen the pleasure cats get out of scratching things, you suck. (which should be a scratching pole, not your carpet/furniture...if you are half decent at training an animal)

If it bothers you that much, and you're too lazy to clip their claws, you don't deserve to own a cat. Imagine if i ripped your fingernails out.

Well I was against it, but when in a relationship such as an engagement, sometimes compromises have to be made.

I just built a scratch post for my cats, it wasn't very hard to teach them to use and they love to play on it.

We had both of my wife's cats declawed (fronts only). The clincher was when one was sitting on my lap and suddenly went bezerk and scratched me about a 1/4" away from my eye. When the 2nd one came along (adopted stray), he had to be declawed because the 1st one was.

theres nothing wrong with declawing cats. juist as theres nothing wrong with surgically altering their genitals to make them more suitable pets. its for your benifit sure, but in the end they benifit from being better pets too.

Ouch. Pretty harsh, dude.

My fiance and I have two cats also, and while they haven't been declawed, there has been talk about having it done. We just moved to a newer, nicer apartment, and they are already taking a toll on the new carpet. Even so, I don't think we'll have it done anytime soon... maybe not until we own a place. They have done some damage to our couch though, too.

Edit: Wow, I just looked at that pic and yor apartment looks just like ours... carpet, blinds, even a similar cat bed. Pretty odd.
