Kinda of late to post this, but if anyone is looking for a CPAP recommendation I would suggest to look at a RESMED APAP (Not sure of the new model #'s). Insurance will usually pay for them and they are much better machines. The have the ability to adjust the pressure to your every breath rather than a straight CPAP titrated to a certain pressure. Most companies will not give you one unless you ask, because it costs them a little more. I used to work in the biz and the company I worked for was nice enough to give these to every patient. They are much more comfortable to sleep with.

Yep, I got a Resmed S8 because it's what the company delivered to me. Then I find out about the S9 Autoset. Wish I had known about it. I should check on how often I can get a new machine. Most likely every four to five years, which puts me a ways out yet.

No good respiratory companies around here. All the therapists can't even be bothered to read the manuals. Oh, but they sure are quick to yank the Clinicians manual out of the box. Fortunately two minutes of Google found me one. No need for them anymore.

Small update.
I've been having to cinch the mask down tighter and tighter lately with a lot of air loss still. Always waking up with dry mouth, not feeling as rested...
I went to another cpap supply store here in Topeka last night and they loaned me an autopap, plus I got the mirage FX nasal mask and swift FX nose pillows to try. The mirage was weird. It feels like its floating on my face rather than being attached to it, and it was hard to go to sleep because it didn't feel secure, but, I didn't notice a single leak, no marks on my face like my old mask had, and I slept through the entire night. Another thing, my pressure was at 14.4 when I woke up instead of the 19 my old machine was programmed at. Also, ZERO dry mouth!!

Hoping to repeat this performance tonight.

Well, been almost 3 weeks and I am sleeping much better with a new mask and machine. Insurance is letting me get an apap machine since my pressure fluctuates so much at night and I sleep much better with one. I'm also using the swift fx nasal pillows and also picked up a mirage nasal mask. No more dry mouth since I got the s9 auto set!!!

slag,

Did insurance cover the sleep study or did you have to pay all or part of it?

My insurance paid all of it. They gave me a few gadgets and I took it home - it wasn't a sleep study in an office.

I'd prefer to have a sleep study done in the office/lab but I suspect it's $$$ more than taking it home. Since insurance will most likely pick up the tab I guess I'll do it at home. What kind of gadgets? Was it difficult to sleep with all the sensors and crap attached?

I didn't have an option (Kaiser/Aetna)

It's a few gadgets to measure all your vitals; I didn't have any problems sleeping, but I also have nightcaps to put me to sleep.

Results came back that I have severe sleep apnea to where I was having episodes over 120 times an hour. I'm getting fitted for a cpap machine tomorrow (Friday), but don't know what to expect. What do you cpap users recommend? Full face mask, nose mask, tubes, etc. What things should I be looking for? I'm going to get a heated humidifier with mine. Any other suggestions?

My out of pocket is around $415 for the machine I think.

I have several friends with CPAP machines, and they love them. Best sleep of their lives, so they say.
