Stupid question after you pay $415 out of pocket, do you own it or you're leasing/renting it?

After (if?) you're done with it, is there a used market or demand to sell it or you're stuck with an expensive machine?
I own mine with zero out of pocket

Same here - Cadillac insurance coverage at the time.

My biggest problem is they have the pressure so high (19) to account for altitude that I wake up after 4-5 hours with a massive chest ache.
Have to take it off.

The family MD does not know anything about changing the settings and the local service shop will not change the setting or show me without MD orders.
they did change the altitude setting from high to low; but stated the 19 probably is to high.

It was a sleep shop that ordered the unit for me. went there for the snoring issue (let wife sleep better at night)
Now it is just sitting in the attic because I could not tolerate the chest aches each morning.

and I have noticed that the snoring increased as the weight started to come on and age. OK until I hit 35-40.
Dump 50-60lbs and most of the snoring should go away.

your case is why I highly recommend people see a sleep specialist. A good one can really work with you.
Unfortunately in todays insurance controlled medicine, it's getting harder and harder to see a specialist.

HOWEVER, I always have to wash off my face because of the sweat or oil or whatever it is, the mask will not seat properly and will cause what I call "face farts" or high pitched squealing as the mask doesn't seal properly against my face and the air lets out.

Get these, they are a freaking miracle. Really, I couldn't use a cpap until I started using them. All the squeals and buzzes and everything are gone. Makes the mask comfortable as hell.

Damn, OP. I haven't gotten good sleep in a long time either.

However, my sleeping troubles are a combination of stress and other mixed factors that I don't know about. (AKA can't do shit about) My doctor is saying I should see a sleep specialist and see about a sleep study. I keep looking for a good fix, but I'm pretty sure I won't find one. I'm underweight and so I'm skeptical that I could have sleep apnea (Which sounds very fixable, which is nice.). Sleep studies are also very expensive... and my insurance doesn't cover 100%. (They do about 75%)

Sounds like a good idea in theory but I have a couple problems with this.

1. It hangs out and obstructs vision and can brush against your mouth or cheek. I watch tv before going to bed with my mask on and this would be a big distraction. I can also see myself waking up if I feel this brush against my cheek or forehead and that would suck.

2. Cost. Almost a buck a day for something that should be built into the mask. And, its a recurring cost and something else to remember to take with me when I travel. I already think my nasal mask is too big, this is just another hassle to deal with

Thanks for the link though, looks like it might help someone.

It's a wonder how the human race survived before doctors were able to diagnose and treat everyone with an acronym. I am amazed.

We didn't survive to be nearly as old though...... It wasn't that long ago that life expectancy was like 40 years old.

My dad snored like a chain saw when I was growing up, so my guess is hereditary.

it often is. you get your parents eye color, hair, etc. you also get their same internal organ structure

this may help someone, I had a pt recently who made something similar, he cut a piece of thin microfiber cloth to fit his mask ( a full face one)
he said it reduces sweating and makes it much more comfortable.

and it's reusable:thumbsup:

I'd normally google something like this, but you guys might be faster/have better answers :\

What are the signs really, that you should go in and see if you have sleep apnea? I'm fat as hell, gained a bunch of weight the past few years from depression, and my dad suggested it to me a little while ago. Reading this thread reminded me of his suggestion, so I thought I'd ask what kind of.. 'warning signs', for lack of a better term, would be a good idea to go get a sleep study done :\

SNORING
do you wake up often
do you pee more than once a night (apnea increases urine output)
do you never feel refreshed when you wake up

Ah... hrm. I've snored my entire life (Seriously, brothers/sisters would tease me about it when I was like 6. I was fucking LOUD apparently). Don't really wake up a lot.. though I do have some trouble falling asleep in the first place. Never really have to get up to goto the bathroom during the night. The refreshed part depends. Lately (since my weight gain) I've been sleeping for longer periods of time (10-some odd hours a night), and I'd normally wake up refreshed. If I get up at the 'normal' 8 hours of sleep time, then I'm tired.

To add to what mcveigh said,

Do you feel like you are in a fog during the day?
Do you wake up in the morning and feel like you never even slept?
Can you sleep 8-10 hours and still feel super tired?
Do you never have enough energy during the day?
Do you fall asleep at your desk/computer or doze off on the way home from work?

I had every one of these symptoms above and now can honestly say I have NONE of them after getting my sleep study done and have been using a cpap for a few months. It really is amazing. Sure, there are some nights that aren't as good as the rest, maybe the mask was leaking a bit, maybe I slept wrong, whatever, but that happens to everyone. For 99% of the time, I feel great and refreshed when I wake up and am not in a fog anymore. I used to drink heavily caffeinated coffee to "wake up" at work and no longer need it. With increased rest and better sleep comes less stress, a better attitude, less eating (I was eating to get that satisfied feeling that sleep wasn't providing me), better overall health, lower blood pressure, etc.

1. Give it a try, it's really not an issue. I swear by these things. I've had a cpap for two years and could never get though more than a few days before I quite using it. With the Remzzzs I'm on it full time, all night long.

2. Insurance covers it.

I called down to my local cpap store and they have some they are going to give me to try. Thanks.
