a month back i swapped my old ASUS A7N266VM (nforce 1) with my sis's BIOSTAR M7NCG 400 bios rev 7.2(nforce 2). n i thought everything was hunky-dory but was i wrong!! i added 512mb kingston ram so the total becomes 1 gig with the first 512mb ram being a hynix, the ram's working in a dual channel setup (whatever tht means or does).

i use winxp pro., with the asus mb the number of system processes running were bout 21 after the swap the number has shot up to 37. whenever i start a application (even windows explorer or notepad) the cpu usage goes up to 20-50% which is unusually high. the system is working a lot slower than the old 512mb config. sometimes while playing winamp there is a crackling noise which never occured with on asus, i know there's no problem with the audigy 2.

windows installed without a hitch. norton 2003 is regularly updated n the firewall (sygate personal firewall pro 5.5 build 2710) seems to work properly.

there is no legit reason for the awful performance. i have not tried playing a game yet, prolly becoz the system's drivin me nuts. plz help, any sorta help will do.

PLZZ PLZZ.

k now the sys is working in single channel mode, but still there r peaks showin in the task manager, the cpu usage suddenly jumps from 7% to 100% for no apparent reasons. i'll have to wait n see if there is a sys performance improvement.

CPU time isn't accountable in percentages, it's either running something or it's not, the percentages you get in things like taskmgr and top are averages for the last several seconds. When you start a process it gets 100% of the CPU for it's timeslice (quantum in Windows speak) and then the OS interrupts it to let another task run if something else is elligable.
